I don't know if they can fix it for the 396. As mentioned above, the 996 will allow that.

If you read the description in the WIKI it says the same port that the 246/396/330/230 has for the front and a DB-9 pin serial for the rear.

What would be great for the front connector would be a clone feature to be able to get any system file from or to any of those current model handhelds. If the code was written correctly that could be done. Then if you were on the road and wanted to send a system to the handheld you wouldn't need a PC to do so.

GPS port will be the DB-9 on the back I see.

And just like the BC795/796D the Software will be free. UASD compatable, so the system files that are already available with the handhelds should work. Very nice!

Yeah I see that now. I don't like that at all. If you want to have it in your house using computer control I would rather have it in the back. I do understand that some would want it in the front for in dash mounting. If I have it right the port on the back will be for GPS only. Thanks for letting me know it was on the wiki! :)

I have a few questions. Will this radio will do 700MHz trunking and control channel trunking (for VHF and UHF)? Are the frequency steps are changable so the radio will be useful now and after rebanding? Thanks!

The BCD396T already does all that, so is safe to assume the BCD996T will do it also.

BTW, the frequency steps don't have anything to do with rebanding, there's a few threads discussing that in these forums.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check those threads out. I have always had Radio Shack scanners (right now a PRO96) so I am not too familiar with the Uniden products. This new scanner may sway me away from Radio Shack however.

No, if you read the Wiki page you'll see multi-towers have been addressed.

LOL I have been working on reading that thing all day long. Everytime I get started I have to turn around for something else and then forget about it :)

If I'm not mistaking my Garmin ETREX LEGEND should work great. It has an internal menu for NMEA 0183 Ver 2.3 output (and input). Hopefully I can use this unit for the scanner via the output and still use it as my trip counter/mapping unit.

On the WIKI photoshop picture I see a green alert LED on the faceplate. Will this be for channel alert only or will the the "beartracker" mobile extender detector be added to the features? It would be helpful if used as a mobile. I didn't see this in the pre-release feature list.

I Just noticed the wiki has a nice prelim front view of the scanner. I hope that's not where they plan to put the computer port! It does look usb though. :)
I just noticed this "Either port can be configured to be PC interface or GPS interface."

Could be for the Emergency Alert, Channel Alert, or Close Call Alert.

Not the green "Alert" LED, The red LED. See the CC (close call) symbol.

I like the idea of a Military Air Service search. This will be nice when using search and scan at the air show with the civil air search and Close Call.

So when the Close Call alert or channel/emergency alert goes off will it alternate between red and green display too?

After looking through the growing list I think I may have located what the red one is for.

Non-Radio Location-Based Features (GPS)

There are non-radio type systems that hold other location based information:

* Dangerous Xing: Stores location, range, direction of travel. If you are within range, traveling in the specified direction, you receive an alert.
* Dangerous Road: Stores location, range, speed. If you are traveling at a speed greater than the one specified, and are within the range of the specified location, you receive an alert.
* Points of Interest: Stores location and range. If you approach the specified location, you receive an alert.

In general, a location alert can have:

* Latitude
* Longitude
* Speed (optional)
* Alpha (optional)
* Alert Type and Level (optional)
* Vector (optional)
* Heading

Alerts are based on:

* Speed setting > 0 and no vector entered, non-directional speed alert
* Speed setting > 0 and a vector is entered, directional speed alert
* Speed = 0 and vector is entered, dangerous intersection alert
* Speed = 0 and no vector entered, point-of-interest alert

The user can quickly save a location by pressing GPS. Scanner prompts for the type of location to store (Speed, Intersection, or POI)

Good catch, Dwayne!

Will the FM broadcast be in stereo through the headphones, or mono only?

I would like a drop down stand rather than a mounting bracket with rubber bump feet. Will the stand return?

I don't think both would be too much to ask for.
