Tone document

Hi all,

I havn't had time to review all 29 pages in this thread so if this has been posted before I apoligize.

You may be interested in downloading this chart. It's a compendium of a lot of signalling plans. This helps in getting or gussing the correct tones if you're close.

If possible promulgate this to other forums.

Fire Tone Out - 396t

I finally got my scanner programmed to alert on my stations tones. I entered the B-Tone in the A-Tone slot and left the B-Tone slot empty for my tones. The B-Tone is excatly 3 seconds long. The county I live in uses a single long(over 3seconds) tone for county wide announcements. I programmed this tone into the B-Tone slot and now get the scanner to alert on county wide announcements to. I just had to play with different combinations in different slots until I got the right one. On another note in order to obtain the tones I used Scanrec and then G-tune 2.5 to record and decode the tones, which they did do accurately. Uniden did certainly make this complicated for those of us who live in areas that the officals will not freely give out the information.

The first URL doesn't work (404 error). There are no obvious links between thenorth.com and any sort of radio software.

How did you locate the program?

Matt, you can record the tone outs and try to decode them using the programs in the links provided in this thread and you can also check with your count fire department to see if they will provide the information.

You can easily do it through the Uniden software on your computer (zero everything out) or you can simply set Tone A & Tone B to 0.0Hz each for Tone-Out 2 and that will disable it as well.

What is the "delay in seconds" for. I have programmed the tones and frequency but as of yet have not heard a tone-out. It is possible that I have the wrong frequency but the tones are known. This is the first time I looked into the tone-out feature.

Is it the delay between the tones? I have it set for 2 seconds. BTW Dave, this is for North Greece Fire District. Tones are on:

I looked and seen that the frequency these tones go out on is 154.310, still don't know what the delay is for.

If you think you might have the wrong frequency, manually tune your scanner to that frequency and "hold" on it. You should then hear all traffic on that channel, including the pager tone-outs, regardless of the tone sent out.

For example, an entire city's paging system could be on 157.05MHz, and holding on that channel, you could hear all the various public works, fire, and EMS pages.

If you think the town has changed frequencies, try looking up your county in the FCC database. That should give you an idea of where to scan.

If I was using my Pro-96 I'd would become familiar with the frequencies again instead of just seeing the alpha tag.

396 v996 firmware updates

I am probably going to get yelled at for posting this in the Tone-out thread, but the discussion concerned the firmware version differences for loading tone-out info, so.....
I just plunked down my money for a 996 which I will presume has the latest firmware in it, because I did not note any 996 upgrades on their website, while there were a couple for the 396. Are these interchangeable for both units??

Anyway, back on thread, I will try to get info on the Montgomery County MD tones and post them here.
