I'm a newbie to the SC230, so please be gentle in your response. What's the purpose of this PC protocal file/program? What would I use it for?

So that people can write software to upload and download systems to your SC 230.

Thanks for the response. I'm still attempting to learn this scanner. It seems to be loaded with function/feature and has a high learning-curve, for me anyway.

I've downloaded the SC230VUP_V2_01.zip firmware update. How do you install it?

I extracted the file to an unzipped folder. I clicked on the setup.exe file and it went thru a SC230VUP_V2_01 setup proceedure. Now what? I need a key-stroke by key-stroke/mouse-click by mouse-click description of what to do. I assume you have to connect the scanner to the PC via the DB 9 connector.

Sorry, but what do you do to run the software? Double clicking on the icon shows the 3 files in the folder, SC230VUP_V2_01.CAB,setup.exe and SETUP.LST

In your Program Files directory, there is now a "Uniden" folder that has the installed software. There is also probably a new desktop icon and an entry in "All Programs". This will depend somewhat on your operating system.

I just downloaded SC230_UASD_v1.0.3.0.exe 1.0.3.0 to my desktop. I double-click, a status box pops up with no prompts, and then disappears 1.5 seconds later. I can't seem to find whatever it just extracted or anything. Am I missing something?

EDIT: I'm installing this with the 246 version os UASD already on the same computer. Possible conflicts?

Start the install in an otherwise empty directory. If the BC246T installation files are present (i.e. the BCSS directory), installation might not start correctly.

Bingo. Sometimes I like to think I'm pretty smart with computers, but other times, the obvious just slips by. Thanks Paul. :D

i took my sc230 to the irl race last night (first time using it) and had the tv broadcast signal going in and out, depending how i had my scanner held. got some bleedthrough and a lot of static as well. pretty disappointed actually, as my only other experience using a scanner was a borrowed bc60, and the signal was much better. i was using the stubby, and had the attenuator off for the first part, and on for the second. didn't make much of a difference. the car frequencies were alright, but the broadcast wasn't. and the radio broadcast couldn't be made out at all.

was also disappointed in the sound. i had read somewhere that the sound on this scanner was really low and uniden most likely did that so that people have to buy the volume boosters (b/c of course uniden knows how to set the volume on a RACE SCANNER). and i had a 25db noise reducing headset, so it shouldn't have been that.

all in all it was a rather frustrating first time used at the track. not so much bothered by the sound as i can just buy a booster, but the static, bleedthrough, and inconsistent signal was disheartening. any suggestions? are some stubby's better than others? i have 2 - i used my racing electronics stubby b/c it was smaller. any input? any tips?

Wow, I had mine at a NASCAR race with the racing-radio headphones and the supplied stubby and didn't experence the problems you had. The headphones I had were not amplified but were loud and clear with the supplied volume.

Were you close to the press box transmitters?

priority channels

This question doesnt seem to get answered. What is the function of the
priority channel? If a channel is set as priority why does the
scanner never go to it when it is active. I set a channel to scan
hoping it would stop on my priority channels when they are active, but
it never does. What is the proper way to set this so I can scan MRN
and have it cut to the drivers in the chase when active? I am very
proficient with this scanner but cannot figure this one out.

Upman:

Will Uniden issue firmware update to SC230 ? Hope this version functions similar to version 2.05.01 of BC246 !

Here's some point:
Allows Multiple CTCSS/DCS Auto Store
Adds UHF TV Screen
Increases Close Call Pause to 10 seconds
Adds the CTCSS/DCS setting to the default channel name
Changes the “All Locked” error message to “Nothing to Scan” to clarify the actual fault condition.
Changes the Data Skip default to Off.
Improves CTCSS/DCS Detection during Autostore
Improves memory erase time
Improves ESD tolerance
