Thread seen ;) This is their first time so nobody knows there, that's why I hoped someone in this thread has monitored them before.

I think the Toledo birds are staying at the Dayton airport. I wasn't paying real close attention, but I think I heard them take off from Dayton after the Blue Angles completed there practice program.

The "Stings" then flew down to the Buckeye MOA in southern Ohio (290.5, 316.125), after which they returned and shot a few approaches at WPAFB then returned to land over at the Dayton airport.

Heard some plane-to-plane traffic on at least a couple of frequencies, possibly from the following: 138.425, 139.625, 139.975, 141.6, 141.65, 338.15 (all AM mode).

I've been hearing a lot of chatter from the Ohio National guard today on MARCs talkgroup "4000" on site #42 strongsville about "crowd detainment" and "counting packs" I'm guessing its a training exercise or maybe pre-deployment talk.

Northeast OH Milair?

I live in Lake County and (apart from Cleveland air show) don't hear much military aircraft. My roof mounted discone works very good on UHF military air freqs, just not a lot of traffic. I can hear planes at least 150 miles away if they're high enough. I monitor UHF ARTCC, local approach/departure and tower freqs, plus air refueling tracks over Lake Erie and such. Can anyone recommend additional northeast OH UHF milair freqs?

Holy cow! Thanks for all the info OHIOSCAN. I have tons of programming to do! Just curious, what kind of antenna(s) do you use?

I live in Lake County and (apart from Cleveland air show) don't hear much military aircraft. My roof mounted discone works very good on UHF military air freqs, just not a lot of traffic. I can hear planes at least 150 miles away if they're high enough. I monitor UHF ARTCC, local approach/departure and tower freqs, plus air refueling tracks over Lake Erie and such. Can anyone recommend additional northeast OH UHF milair freqs?

I've found that playing with Mode S on my RTL dongle, I can at least see when mil aircraft are in the general area above Lake County. Kinda fun to play with. I have to give a big shout out to "eorange" on that one!

What's an "RTL dongle"? I'm totally clueless. Please explain.

Thanks, but I was just following Ohioscan's lead, and then went to the digital software forum.

LZ56, get the very inexpensive NoElec R820T RTLSDR dongle, which is a USB stick with an antenna. Read up on where to get, and how to install, the ZADIG drivers for this stick. Then download RTL1090, which captures ADS-B data from the dongle (i.e. aircraft name, altitude, callsign). See the pic; I captured a mil aircraft.

When you get this far, then you're doing good. Then download the free Virtual Radar Server, which captures the output of RTL1090 and plots the airplane positions on a Google map, all in your browser.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this stuff. Very cool and interesting, but all I want to do is keep it simple and monitor aircraft on my scanner. I frankly hate spending so much personal time at home downloading and configuring software, and all the attendant headaches that come with these buggy Microslop Windows-based PCs. And this is coming from someone who has been an assembler language programmer on Big Iron IBM mainframes for 35 years! Thanks again for replying.

BTW when I heard ot on the scanner I turned on my VX5R and it was full scale with the rubber ducky. Yes I realize at altitude and maybe power had a lot to do with it.......

Very strong in NE PA as well, so I'm guessing was at very high altitude.

discone mounted outside on roof.

MTC = Selfridge (by the way, why is it "MTC"?)
CAK = Akron/Canton

Does anyone know what the hottest NORAD and Strategic Command frequencies
are, or at least where to look? The RR milair wiki doesn't seem current.

EDIT --- OK, I don't know how all those asterisks ( * ) got in there, I copied the
list from XCEL spreadsheet. AAARRGH, I hate windows text processing (or lack thereof).
