Just got the word that East Coast bases are evacuating for Earl. Patterson should get a gaggle of fighters (Scott AFB and Nashville will handle most Oceana aircraft). Expect possible transients from Langley, Seymour Johnson, maybe Cherry Point and Pope as well.

The general inbound route should bring them in on the east side of Dayton Approach.

Kind of a cool first-handed experience on Friday, Oct. 29

I heard low flying jets outside at around 8:30 AM local (1230z). While low level ANG is fairly common here, they usually just blow by. These jets were circling around the area (unusual indeed.) I couldn't spot the planes due to low ceiling.

On the scanner, I heard Muddy 11 and Muddy 12 on 228.900 referring to a plane they were escorting to Wyandot County Airport (K56D was mentioned). The plane being escorted was N354CP which is a Civilian Air Patrol single-prop. Muddy 12 asked Huntress for freqs for K56D, and later mentioned monitoring 122.900 and 123.000. I think, although I'm not sure, that 128.750 was mentioned as the frequency giving the CAP plane clearance to land at Wyandot. I also think Wyandot County is a unicomm. The entire episode seemed a little odd, unless it was some sort of training mission.

I also saw this posted on another list and it appears it was a CAP (Combat Air Patrol) exercise. 228.900 is the primary HUNTRESS (NORAD Eastern Sector) frequency. MUDDY were F-16s from 180th FW Toledo. Nice catch!

Jared is the 178th mission completely done, I have not heard any training for a couple weeks and have seen nothing about the aircraft heading west.

The last 162nd FS a/c departed in September. Several RNLAF birds are at Tuscon already, but a few are still here. They were training last week - usually morning sorties.

I did a photo shoot at the 178th on November 29th Springfield Beckley ANGB Fire Dept - FireHousesOfOhio's Photos | SmugMug and at that time information related to me was the following. They anticipated current aircraft to be there for an additional 14 days and that the two a days that had been previously scheduled weren't being fulfilled. The ARFF and tower operations are anticipated to be there for an additional year unless something was to happen which reversed the current course of events.

I have a friend who works in the department - I'll have to ask him if he can get me on base for the last day. Sad to see them go, but the maintenance mission will be there; they even had an F-22 in last week.
