Ohio Scanning - MARCS-IP

I bought a BCD436HP in October and setup my favorites and used only the local towers. Today to decided to completely redo my favorites list and update them to the current database on here.When I did that I didn't avoid any sites and sent them to my scanner and then I started scanning. After I didn't realize this until after I started getting transmission I realized that the tower location was in Lawrence County and I'm in Licking County. So how could I pickup our SO deputy a block away on their town and then have a strong enough transmission off the the Lawrence County site to get back to my radio? Should I leave all of the state sites active? Feeling really confused at the moment.

Without looking at the data - probably same freq. used on both sites.

Many sites share the same freq., spaced far enough apart to avoid issues. I do not think there is any issue - except in what the scanner displays.

Check the rr database as its probably a sure bet that both locations utilize that CC frequency.

I thought that might be true but I dropped the freq into excel and looked for duplicates and found none.

I am assuming the Favorites List (FL) you set up DOES NOT have Location enabled. You might want to consider using the following scheme:

I have created an Ohio MARCS-IP FL in which I've included all the Departments and all the Sites. By convention, I assign the my local (i.e., within range) sites to Quick Keys 90 thru 97; I assign the Mobile-Site to 98, and all other Sites to 99. This way I can turn off sites selectively by enabling/disabling quick keys. If all MARCS-IP sites are included (i.e., not filtered by Quick Keys or location based scanning) the 436 will search through every site looking for a CC signal on the sites frequencies, this can take a long time and will reduce the effectiveness of the scanner.

By convention I assign the local Departments (i.e., Talkgroup Categories) or wider area Departments to Quick Keys 0 thru 8; all other Departments I assign to Quick Key 9. This scheme allows me to selectively enable/disable the Departments with minimal effort.

Hope this scheme make some sense.

If you haven't utilized Location based scanning on the 436, you should spend some time researching and learning how it works. Once you do, you will probably find it to be a vary powerful feature of the HomePatrol scanner series.

Both counties use 774.40625. If you avoid that Lawrence site you should still receive it on the Newark site.
