Value?

You're kidding aren't you? The software came out Sunday and I have 7 V-folders programmed by entering data and converting Win96 files via the Pro-96. Try that by hand with the radio alone.

I will agree with the last two posters. If the software can not easily allow one to paste multiple entries or import multiple entries (from Radio Reference, CSV/Excel files, etc), the software does not provide that much more value that manually entering each object via the scanner itself

(ok well alpha tags are a bit easier at least). I had a list of about 300 talkgroups that I was looking forward to paste in, but I've given up after manually typing in about 50 or so.

If would be slick if we could manually edit the object ID as that would help with resorting information and possibly applying meaningful numbers to the IDs (like zone and channel numbers from a trunking system). I would suspect that as long as the software kept track of the object IDs and appropriate relationships to systems, that this could be easily accomplished.

Freakin bizarre. I even tried another USB port but it's still the same issue. I wonder if there's something installed that is causing a confict?
But, I don't what it would be.
Maybe the software needs to be 'allowed' via virus software or Windows firewall.

Ahhhh.....

I installed the program PSRedit to my XP HP laptop.

No matter what I do the computer assigns it port number 17. THE PROBLEM IS THE PROGRAM ONLY ALLOWS YOU GO TO 16.

So far... I have no digital audio from the P-25 trunked system at all and PSRedit won't work on any of my computers except the one at work.

This in quickly becoming no fun.

Hey, it's as good of an idea as any at this point. My only question is wouldn't that throw up a Windows box warning of such? I would think so. I will try to go check and see anyway.

PSREdit is an amazing program. I can't imagine trying to extensively program the PSR-500 without it. Nice work Mike!
 Agreed, I've got gobs of p96 files to load into a 2096 or 96 and suck into this outstanding software. Talk about ready to run the highway.

It shoudn't need any special permissions other than access to the serial port. 1.01 version will have the ability to go up to COM32... That should take care of anybody...

That many 'occupied' com ports is the issue. Have you installed, say USB drivers and not uninstalled them and they are piling up? Sometimes I've see a driver loaded for a device take a com port, and then if you plug the same device into another USB, it'll take the Next com port and so on and so on.

Have you looked at your hardware devices, com ports to see what all of those taken ports are assigned to?

Good question, I don't know.

I guess 24 would hopefully cover it. I don't know why it likes 17 and puts it there but I can't seem to do anything about it.

The device manager list doesn't even show any com ports until I plug it in then 17 shows up. When I go to the advanced settings tab for 17 I see the drop down list of ports. It shows that 1 and 2 are open, 3-10 are in use, 11 is open, 12-15 are in use and the rest are open.

How do I look to see if something is assigned to one? I don't recall downloading any other drivers but....?

The freeware is already out! Grab the radio with your left hand and enter data with your right.
Ah, a comedian.

If it wasn't for freeware we wouldn't have fine software like UniTrunker, et al.

Thanks. Hopefully that will take care of it. At least it's not like it's a big deal anyway. I have a radio that refuses to decode P-25 trunking so I guess that's what I should be focusing on anyway.

BTW, I see a bunch of different values in your program referencing P-25. Is there a place that defines those? It makes me wonder if tweaking those would get this radio to work.

Well, I think that freeware is dandy too, but when the competition is selling software for the same product, I see two issues, IMHO, of course.

1. The person that has worked hard to create the "freeware" derives nothing but satisfaction for it.
2. The freeware undermines the person that is trying to perhaps cover part of his living by writing such software.

All of the trunker type softwares have been freeware. I think the reverse applies there as well. All of those programs are brilliantly done...but they are free. I'm not sure that someone coming along and trying to sell what is already available for free would go over well, or would produce a great deal of sales.

Both of these guys are to be commended for their hard work, and both should be compensated for it. I for one certainly don't mind spending the short money for a quality product. Both offer 30 day eval periods.

Mike, one question. I notice that your software license is good for install on just one computer. I don't believe that Don has this limitation, and I program with two different computers, a desktop and a laptop, and transfer files between the two. Would it be possible to expand the license to legal install on two computers? I suppose this could probably "illegally" be accomplished, but it's nice to keep things above board.

I'm still evaluating, but it's an excellent start. The ease of use is fabulous. A RR interface and a few things on the wishlist would be dandy. Having two programs to choose from also makes for competition, which ultimately makes for a better product.

Keep up the great work, and Don, I'm looking forward to yours as well.

Edit: Nevermind my question...if I read things right, I'd have noticed that your software is usable on two computers. Sorry about that.

Those settings, and a few more, are available in the advanced GLOB menu. You can also get the help text from the radio about what they mean.

To access those settings in the radio, Press PGM, FUNC, F3(GLOB)

Scroll through the list, and on any of them you want to view, press FUNC-SEL for a help screen.

I need to update the license that's included in the ZIP archive. As far as I'm concerned, you may install the software on a laptop and a desktop using the same key. The stipulation being that you are the owner of both computers.

I gave it a try (thanks for expanding the port numbers) but it still says Unable to open COM 17! Please make sure USB cable is connected and try again.

It must be a piece of software that I have on both machines and not at work. I can't think of anything else it could be.

Also... great job on the software. It looks great and was easy to use when I tried it at work.

I've released PSREdit 1.01. Mostly bug fixes, although I did add a hitcounts column to all listboxes. I will be looking into the items on the wishlist asap.

Hi Mike:

Would it be possible to make the PL/DPL/NAC drop down list box allow direct entry when you already know the correct tone, as well as selecting from the list?

Great product! Thanks for all your hard work!

Thanks,

Warren
