Since Friday 4/29, No longer hearing the Orange Town PD or Gordonsville Town PD

I spoke briefly with an Orange County medic who was outside his ambulance at a Wawa in Spotsylvania. I asked him how they liked the new radios. He said they were good, and much better than the old ones.

The old system is still going to be set up and operating for a little while as a failsafe, and will most likely be decommissioned once they're ready to remove equipment. At least that is what was explained to me.

So is it simulcasting what is being transmitted on the P25 system? Or just available to use if needed?

I'm gonna be in Orange for the Hunt Races next week and will be bringing my UV-5R. I presume all LE will be on a STARS TG. What about FD staged for the event? Are FD's P25 talkgroups still simulcasted on an FM freq? And other than 152.4125 does Montpelier have any other freqs that they use for the event?

Which system do they actually use at the Hunt Races? And which talkgroups?

I assume the Orange P25 system. Being its the first year with the P25 system I dont know what talkgroups.

There are not alot of talkgroups defined yet so I would scan all and not use the ones in RR

I was wondering if they would be on encrypted talkgroups. In which case, even a scanner wouldn't be of much use.

I heard talkgroup 619 today. It appears to be a COFEMS fire training talkgroup.

Talkgroup 206 (encrypted) active this afternoon. Possibly related to the Orange Christmas Parade. One of the radio IDs was 4361000.

Here are the talkgroups I have caught since they started to test the system back in November of 2021. Most I have listed have a recording tying the department to the talkgroup. If I do not know what the talkgroup belongs to, I have a question mark showing I do not know.

401- Possible LOWA Maintenance or Security, Now encrypted
402-? Possibly LOWA
409- LOWA Security to Orange dispatch, now encrypted
502- Orange buses (not encrypted, yet)
600-? Most likely Orange Fire
601- Orange Fire (not encrypted, yet)
602- Orange Fire (not encrypted, yet)

610- Maintenance? Not sure for what town and or if it might be LOWA maintenance channel.

Talkgroup 600 is the paging talkgroup. I need to monitor more to see if it appears that TG601 is patched for the voice dispatching.

This evening, I’m picking up talk group 723 that appears to be the Sheriff’s office in the clear. Anyone else tracking this or any others?
