Mike,

Personally I can program the xts3000, xts2500 or xts5000 series radios with my current
configuration. If you want to get an Astro Saber I can borrow a cable and be able to do the same. I just need a few days advance notice.

As to which radio to buy, I guess it is whatever you have in the budget and what features
your looking for (display, keypad, etc.) There are lots of options either on Batlabs or on e-bay. Just make sure you run the flashcode to make sure that it is Astro capable:

Miguel (KI4HTW) is also another source of good information and equipment.

I am very new to D-Star technology and have a D-Star question for the list. I was looking at the Icom IC-91 a/d radio and wondering if it is compatible with an XTS5000 in P25 mode. Basically wondering if D-Star is the same digital standard as commercial P25. Thanks in advance for the help.

No they are not compatible nor are they the same standards. The only thing they share is the manufacturer of the VoCoder.

Also there are also no D-Star repeaters in South Florida at this time, so in digital you will only be taking in simplex. There are six P25 capable repeaters in S Fla. One in Miami on VHF, 2 in Broward (one V and one U), and 3 in Palm Beach County (all V).

How about linking all those P25 sites together to make the "South Florida Digital Network!" P25 from south of Miami to Jupiter !

I've been toying with the idea of linking the three in Palm Beach via the microwave system. It's just that they serve totally different purposes when we go into "disaster mode" and I would need to find an easy way to break apart the audio sources in a pinch and make them stand-alone boxes.

What would be really cool would be to deploy SAT RX's and simulcast them. :)

Mark,

Do you have information on these P25 repeaters in Broward? I have the info for the Palm Beach repeaters and I believe that the Miami one is 146.925 NAC 293 in/out. Thanks in advance.

No problem Joe, and yes the 146.925 in Miami just had it's FRC record updated last night to include P25 so safe to assume that the upgrade is completed. :)
