When you run each file just follow the instructions in order on your pc and everything will work fine.

CPU firmware version 1.8 provides the following enhancements to your Pro-106/Pro-197 trunked scanning receiver:

-Adds patch support for P25, Motorola and EDACS trunking

-Changes CCDump type string to "EDn" if "narrow invert" is turned on

-Corrects LCD “mirror image” issue

DSP firmware version 1.4 provides the following enhancement to your Pro-106/Pro-197 trunked scanning receiver:

-Minimizes the possibility of a previous NAC displayed on a new transmission.

Bonus!

I'm shocked at how fast they rolled it out this time. No complaints (imagine that :D )

Thank you GRE & RS. :)

PS - I would do the CPU first. They must have upgraded the CPU to support the new 1.8 firmware, no? Maybe not, but that is how I did it.

Correction: I did the DSP 1.4 first, then the CPU 1.8. It may not matter. Don would have chimed in if it did.

The fix for the NAC will be great for my fed searching! I am running the 197 and 106 at the same time. One scans my regular stuff full time, and the other searches for new fed P25 full time. I love these scanners!

I did the updates last night following the RS directions sheet for the Pro-106. Very easy and simple. No problems so far. I must say having updated many devices over the years, this was a very easy and clean update process. Kudos to GRE and RS!

I updated earlier this evening and have been listening since. Haven't noticed much of a difference which is a good thing. Completely forgot about the ability of patching in these "new" systems since they came in to existence in my area the year I stopped running Rescue in the early 90s. Nice to know this scanner now has the capability to follow the patches.

DSP won't upgrade

I just tried upgrading both my 197 and 106. I did the CPU on the 197. It worked fine. I then tried the DSP, and I get a "no response" message. I then tried my 106 on a different machine, CPU first. Again, it installed fine, but same "no response" message for the DSP. In both cases, I was upgrading from CPU 1.6. I know the communications is there because, if I click the test button while in scan mode, the software queries the radio and returns "DSP 1.3" and enables the update button. Of course, the update can't work, as the radio isn't in upgrade mode. I tried leaving the update button enabled, and then put the radio into upgrade mode, but the communications again fails. Any ideas?

I had got the same thing at first. Thats when i actually read the directions. Turning on the scanner as if its scanning and then do the test for DSP. Then turned it back off then start it again pressing 0 PGM ENTER. Putting it in DSP upgrade. I was not putting it in DSP instead i had it in CPU.

Done

Thanks ken-my download was just the updater-never saw the instructions for DSP mode-although I've done this before so I must have seen them somewhere! Thanks again.

Just did my 106, will do my 197 next week...I see some improvement in the P25 system I monitor.

I see a difference in analog! Has anyone noticed the trunking response time improved? I used to have to wait for the audio on analog trunked channels. Now as soon as they start talking, I hear the beginning of what is being said. No "motorboating" either. Cool!

Thanks, Don! ;)

I just upgraded my Pro-106 CPU and DSP from the links on the RADIO SHACK SCANNERS FORUM PAGE, and they worked flawlessly... very clear instructions, and took all of around 4 minutes to complete both tasks.

A thank you goes out to Radio Shack / GRE for this timely release... they are getting better. Thanks again !!

After I read this I then noticed the same thing. I've never had "motorboating" on NJ TSYS's but previously had to cut the dwell time in order to get all of the transmissions. Perhaps it's my imagination but on conventional analog channels the audio sounds louder AND clearer??? I saw nothing in the announcement about this improvement, any ideas?

How can I tell what version of firmware I am at now? I purchased my PRO-197 and am trying to determine if I need to do the update or not.

Thanks, Jerry
