Let me share my strong opinion. $500 scanners (even $300 dollars scanners at sale price), make rather expensive battery chargers. One cell explodes, and you lose a rather large investment.

May I suggest you use my method?

You buy two sets of Powerex Maha batteries, and a conditioning charger. You keep a spare set charged at all times. You change them when needed, and don't charge them with your scanner.

Now, I understand not everybody can rush out and buy the extra gear, and if you can't fair enough. But if you possibly could, you would be well served. By the way, these batteries last forever and ever. They blow everything else I have tested out of the freakin' water. Just my two cents.

Im with you 100% on this.
I use a MAHA 8 cell conditioning charger. I thought it was an expensive investment until I got it and saw how much longer my batteries last. I cycle my batteries and do a conditioning charge once a month to totally drain them and fully recharge them. You will not believe the difference that it makes. Maha batteries are the absolute best. Mate them with a good charger and you will be all set. You take a big chance charging them internaly. If you look at the manual,, they have a table for how long it will take to charge the batteries internaly. Notice that 1600Ma is the highest they show? I just feel so much better knowing that if a cell should explode, that all I have to do is replace a $60 charger and not a $500 radio. Just my $.02 worth....

Having done the 12v thing with a 96 and the 106 I would recommend NOT with the 106.
It got really warm just in overnight (10 hr) use. I would charge the batteries overnight while listening until I crashed in the 96's and had no problems. The 106 ran warm without charging so I'm following the advice given and A) not using 12v unless it is a life saving emergency B)not charging in the scanner even with 9v.
I have been happy with the $20 set of 4 Energizers no one else likes from Walmart. One in the radio and one charging;I'm ready.

I'm recharging my Energizer 2500 mAh batts out of the 106. No adapter yet. What should the charge time be set to IF charging in-scanner. In the FUNC GLOB Charge Time there is DFLT setting and a user entry setting 99. Obviously not 99 hours. What should it be set to based on the various mAh ratings for batteries ?

Also, under Battery Level I see 565 and 5.02v. I know what volts are but what is 565 ? It also changes as the voltage changes.

TIA

Where have you found to have the best deal on the batteries and charger? And by "best deal" I mean price and service. The best price isn't always the best deal.

I've been buying from these folks for years now, and hold them in high regard. I don't even know if they are the cheapest, since when it comes to something like good batteries and chargers, I want a partnership, and I have one with them. Their products have done very well for me.
