Pro-164 trunk programming EDACS

I am totally a newbie at scanners. I just got a Pro-164, I trying to configure. In fact I am trying to configure local police and fire department. They are running on EDACS Standard. I am based in Quebec city, I am not sure to understand how to setup System Frequencies and System Talkgroups. Those are the code I am trying to enter:

004 4 Ste-Foy 01 866.41250c 02 866.91250 03 867.41250 04 867.91250 05 866.16250 06 866.66250 07 867.16250 08 867.66250 09 868.16250

So I used a bank (I used 9) in which I entered all those frequency at Bank 9 CH 01, I entered 866.41250 and change the mode to ED and so on up to Bank 9 CH 09 where I entered 868.16250. I also pressed the Track button and entered EDACS TGID#04, ED: 0004 and ID# 0004.

I am not too sure of what I am doing here and I have no idea what to do with the talk group. Can anyone help me out.

Make it easy on yourself, when talk groups activate hit the TRUNK button to save them, later on you can go in and edit them with text tags. Keep it simple, after you get the hang of programming manually you will be able to do it on the road, on the fly. After that get the software recommended by many Win97 - Data Management Software for the PRO-97, PRO-2055, PSR-300, PSR-400, PRO-164, and PRO-163 Scanners

START HERE......Ifound the hard way...now you learn....
1. go to radioshack.com and select your scanner...164...scroll down on the page.. you will see a "free download" hyperlink...click on it.... a page comes up...look for "radio shack software/download help"....4 youtube videos come up...I strongly suggest watching them....especially #3
2. buy the Radio shack pc cable/download the software and drivers...all in the same package
3. after watching the youtube videos...It worked for me...Program it automaticaly thru Radio Refernce...Manual entry is difficult

Patch cord and CD

I just called my local Radio Shack and asked them about the PC to Scanner (Pro164) patch cord.
Along with the cord, comes a CD with the needed software to download freq. from RR to your scanner. A little pricey at $35 but then again, it IS Radio Shack we're dealing with!

Along with the cord, comes a CD with the needed software to download freq. from RR to your scanner. A little pricey at $35 but then again, it IS Radio Shack we're dealing with!

$35 is just the USB to scanner adapater cable. The CD is just the DRIVER for the USB cable. You will also need software to program your scanner. Check the Wiki section here on RR, look up your scanner model and you will find links to compatible software.

After entering the last freq., hit SCAN. Now it is in OPEN mode and you should hear all active talk groups.
In CLOSED mode you will hear only the Talk Groups you enter.
Read page 38 about OPEN and CLOSED.
