*thumbs down*

I'll stick with my Pro-97.... the Pro-97 is more of a scanner, having alpha tags, and PL capability, yet it is CHEAPER???

Yup, and wait until the first day you turn on your PRO-97 after rebanding and find out it can not track your local Motorola trunked systems. :)

No Alpha Tag - Strike one...

No CTCSS - Strike two...

No Mil Air - Strike three...

Sounds to me like the 528 blows.... Said it once, and I'll say it again, I'll stick with my 97 thank you.. RadioShack took a HUGE step back with the 528.

Only GOOD feature it seems to have is, the ORIGINAL Signal Stalker. I see an overpriced paperweight.

But, some noob will walk into RadioShack, not knowing what scanners have what features, and will grab up the 528, not knowing he/she could have the 97 with more features for a lower price...

RadioShack stoops to a new low everyday... I do sorta like the 433 though..

:D Then I'll just box'er up, and send to the factory to be re-programmed. Rumor is, the 97 might survive re-banding with a factory upgrade. It's in the RadioReference WiKi..

Interesting that the quick guide mentions software support from "Starrsoft" and "ScanCat", but if you click the hyperlink to Starrsoft, nothing is mentioned about support (or lack of) for the PRO-528 or 433.

That's because Don Starr's software is for GRE scanners. The 433 & 528 are Uniden.

Yep, know that, just posting what the "Radio Shack PRO-528 Quick Guide" says. ;)

The Radio Shack web site "Tech Specs" for each radio differ, but this could be a web master error. Both manuals mention that the two radios can be cloned to each other.

PRO-433: Frequency Coverage 29-54, 108-136.9875, 137-174, 179.75-215.75, 216-224.995, 225-399.9875, 400-512, 806-1300 MHz.
Frequency Storage: Twenty channel storage banks that hold fifty channels each.

PRO-528: Frequency Coverage 29-54, 108-136.9875, 137-174, 216-224.9950, 400-512, 806-1300 MHz
Frequency Storage: Ten channel storage banks that hold 100 channels each.
Inputs: 1 x Barrel(Power jack), 1 x USB(PC Interface) <--"USB" ;) LOL!
Outputs: 1 x Phone 1/8"(Headset jack), 1 x USB(PC Interface)

Maybe they mean if you use the 20-047 USB programming cable? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2177609&cp

I'll be interested to know if you can program an I-Call wildcard in Motorola or EDACS mode?

The 433/528 are virtualy identical except for the fact that the 433 has military air... Makes me wonder, if loading the 434 rebanding firmware into the 528 will load in the military air? I wonder why uniden specificaly left it out. It would of been a nice scanner to have for air shows... Especialy if the signal stalker worked on the mil-air band. I wonder who the brain was behind this decision!

I have read if you close the 433 to the 528, MilAir still won't "pop up".

I too think that is major gay..

No alpha tags and no PL/DPL. C'mon Radio Shack!

In addition to those shortcomings, it doesn't have a Mode (AM/FM) switch for MilAir. Boo Uniden! :(

hmm i wish i read this forum earlier... well i am that "noob" someone mentioned. I just bought the radioshack pro-528 this morning. Its my first radio and it was on sale for 99.99 kind of an impulse buy. Is this radio that bad? Im still trying to figure out how to use it. Any tips or pointers? or comments even?
