Take the rear cover off and check the contacts of the BNC connector.

Your file looks ok. But you really only need the first site, or the closest one to you for the CC frequencies.
But, I do believe that you got a bad scanner. Take it back and exchange it. I don't think it will do any good to swamp it:D Gators might not give it back.

Yes, my Pro-164 picks up weather and the scanner is super active. Love that thing, lol. I've tried everything, I think. I finally put it back in the box and I'll return it today. Thanks for your suggestions. I may be back here needing help again if I get a replacement.

Kat

Does your Pro-164 pick up weather from the same location? The only thing I would have left to suggest is playing with the squelch and maybe even running the scanner through all the frequencies in TUNE mode (you would need to release the Pause using the PSE button), though I would imagine you've already done that quite a bit by now.

It would sound like you're not receiving anything in general. I know some of the comments about the PSR-500/Pro-106/Pro-651 family of scanners is a poor quality BNC connector that sometimes breaks internally, but I don't think I've ever heard of one being defective out of the box.

It would be unfortunate if that were the case and is unfortunate that they don't have a replacement available.

I talked to the manager and that's what he's doing. I probably won't get it until the middle of next week. So, I may be back here. Hopefully the replacement will work. It will be embarrassing if it's something I'm doing wrong, though I really doubt it.

I almost swamped it myself last night, lol!

If you go to radio Shack web site and check in store availability it shows 4 stores within 10miles of your city that have the scanner in stock. If you still have the receipt any of those stores should be able to swamp you a new scanner.

I was trying anything and everything when I made that file. I think it is bad because when I removed and replaced the antenna a couple times I got some noise out of it very briefly, than it went dead again. Not sure if the antenna is the problem or if something is loose internally and I moved it just the right way. Who knows.

We don't have gators here but I was willing to give it away last night, I was so mad. :)
Thanks again everyone for all your help and suggestions. It is really appreciated.

I know that's probably pretty simple but I'm a chicken. I just bought it two days ago. Knowing me, I'd muck something up worse. They are going to exchange it with one from another store. Keeping my fingers crossed that one works ok.

Did you record the Serial Number of the returned Unit? Hate to see you get the same unit back :(

I'm not taking it back until they have the other one in. Good thinking. I started playing with it again and I am getting some static but no radio traffic. I figured I might as well familiarize myself with it while waiting.

For anyone interested. This radio isn't showing the signal strength bars at all. I've tried the stalker, search and tuning. It stopped on one channel and I got static but that's all I've been able to hear.

I truly believe you have a bad unit. Yours is not the only one that has had problems. Enough posts here to back that up. I'm looking later this month to pick up the Whistler version of the radio.

Yep, I think so. I hope you have better luck with yours. I'm sure I'll enjoy it when I get one working.

UPDATE on Pro-651

The manager went and got the replacement Pro-651 for me. He also took another $80 off so I only paid $199 for the radio. Pretty good deal, I think. I brought it home and connected it to my computer, uploaded my file and poof! It works! So simple. I'm listening to it now. Next on the agenda is to get really familiar with it.

I almost threw in the towel on this radio completely. I'm glad I didn't now. I really want to thank all of you that took the time out of your day and tried to help me.

Hopefully this works. Thanks again!

Kat

I opened two instances of Win500. In one, I opened your file (Pro 651 program list.p500). In the other, I opened one of my own (psr500March2015.p500). With both opened in separate windows, side-by-side, I proceeded to make comparisons. I selected a “MOT 800/900” in my file for comparison purposes.

Going across the Tabs, from left to right, I saw several differences. They could all easily be explained and appeared irrelevant. However, when I reached Tab “TYS Objects”, I found differences that I could not explain.

“TYS Objects” Tab > “Details for TSYS Object ID _____” > “Trunking Tables” (See attached Screen Grabs).

And:

“TYS Objects” Tab > “Details for TSYS Object ID _____” > “Trunking Tables” > “Custom” (yours) and “Default” (mine)

AND:

“TYS Objects” Tab > “Details for TSYS Object ID _____” > MultiSite Mode > “OFF” (yours) and “Stationary” (mine).

I am not saying any of these “differences” indicate an error, but only that I do not know a reason for the differences. Just some things to check out.
