From Whistler Support: The Legacy Upgrade will be offered to customers beginning May 2025. I recommend you check the Whistlergroup.com website in May for details.

Did you contact them and get a reply? I never received a reply, and when I tried calling a few times, it went straight to voicemail saying no one was available.

Look at the Need unofficial DMR files for my PSR-800 thread in the GRE Scanners forum. Post #4.
Ahh - Good to hear. Guess they still have work to do with their website because the number there is different than the one posted in that thread. Guess we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the update. I will keep an eye out for it. I did apply the "unofficial" update and so far it works fine. Would there be any benefit at this point to get the official update?

You will be able to use later firmware updates without fear of bricking the scanner. If like before, it also qualifies your scanner to be serviced by Whistler. I would roll back to the original firmware. The upgrade costs more if you have the hacked firmware. It is even more expensive if your scanner has been bricked.

Looking for the unofficial whistler update files. Or is it possible to purchase them from whistler and install myself. Contacted them on their website. No response. The upgrade is not available anymore on their website. I saw a post saying whistler will be doing the upgrade in May. Its May now, and still no upgrade available. No way to tell if it will ever be available again.

thanks, I will be looking, it's just I'm teaching my 9-yr old daughter about scanners, and her bus and school uses DMR, and she is so excited to learn. And I'm eager to listen to our local DMR freq., especially our Elec communications for when the power is out.

I contacted info@whistlergroup.com and received a reply asking for the forum, but I never received a follow-up response. I understand that they are a new company, but leaving customers in the dark, in my humble opinion, is poor business practice. I was initially supportive of them, but now I feel uncertain.

They really need to improve their communication with customers—there's no excuse for this kind of oversight.

:) I keep seeing references to this, for sure if the new owners want to upgrade this hardware they (new 'Whistler' owners) would be doing so more quickly. I am sure many would like to know what is going on with this topic from the new owners, as do I. The legacy upgrade does work, I have it an it is working fine, I urge the new owners to get on the ball with this concern OR just tell us if they are even interested in this topic. :)

:cautious: BTW, those with the unofficial upgrade, make sure you are able to revert back BEFORE either selling the hardware (full disclosure to the new owner) OR saving some dollars when (if) you choose to upgrade. Those who sell the hardware with the unofficial upgrade when there is a way to 'revert' it back, and don't tell the new owner, are either lazy, dubious, or just don't care about the buyer (thereby declaring the buyer is on his or her own). If so, then you should do the right thing! :cautious:

Omg they LITERALLY just took it down from there website!

I was on there last night at 12am PST, and went to check when I saw this comment and it’s gone!

It was $100.

I emailed them before I found it and now it’s gone!

Like everything else these days, the price for the PRO-668 upgrade/conversion from Whistler has gone up. I just checked my receipts and back in July 2017 I paid $59.99 to Whistler to upgrade/convert my PRO-668. The "alleged" new price of $100 which mysteriously disappeared from their website, represents a 67% price increase compared to what I paid back in 2017. FWIW
