Hi just got my pro197 all programed now I need a outside antenna and coax like 50' what does someone recommend for me? Thanks

Why not give us some info on who you're having trouble monitoring so we can get eyes on the database to see if the Pro 197 is the right tool for the job & thus make an informed recommendation for you?

If an outdoor antenna is What you want, get a discone. Wide band coverage. Get LMR 400 coax. A Omni X is more tuned to police and has gain to help. Depends how much you want to spend. Just make sure it’s above your roof top.

I had a discone. I have a Omni X now, it has no issues with the other stuff besides the 700-800 stuff at all. Local airport is 120's an forestry is 150's. I can hear that stuff just fine. I can get the Ft Myers airport 30 plus away as well.

Depending on your RF environment, (more specifically, how many FM broadcasters are in your neck of the woods), you might need to add a FM bandstop filter to block the FM broadcast band. GRE based scanners, of which the 197 is one, are notorious for being too hot and can be badly affected by overload from FM stations. Here is a somewhat long thread on the subject...

I got a 197 with RG8 and a 1/4 wave ground plane at 15' and could hear some local VHF. I then got some LMR400 with a Comet DP9 at 30' and went from a local area to half the state! I was very frustrated though because agencies moved to the 700-800 Mhz and my expensive VHF/UHF antenna was not good in that range. I am rural so I got a 800 Yagi and it works great. The most important thing is COAX! You can easily loose half your signal with the wrong type. It must be foil shielded. I love my LMR400 but the flexible LMR240 would be easier to work with. Right now I am testing a 15 element yagi with RG6 and can pick up a system 60 miles away. Also the 197 will not work in a simulcast area.
