Hi guys,
I have a ar3000a its seems whatever software i use I cannot connect to the rs232 to the ar3000a.

I have a vista dell 1525 with a usb cable to a rs232 25 pin connected to port com1 4800 or 9800 n 1...
nothing happens (no connects).

I have even try to used a xp laptop but no connects

I am now using radiomax software but it does not work "no connection"

could it be the the (rs unit) or (cpu) on the ar3000a any ideas?

the scanner is working fine, but not the RS232

Thanks

What you have run into is the serial port (not rs232 specs) voltage probllems. It looks like your serial to radio interface cable is looking for 10v (rs232) but it looks like your usb-serial is supplying 5v(usb 5V).
I ran into this problem with my toshiba A60 which had a serial port (but checking it didn't say it met rs232 specs). It was supplying 5v not10 v required for rs232 specs.
Hope this helps,Ray

Hi Ray,

Thank you for your reply I am indebted to you.

if you can help how did you get 10v onto your serial or rs232 ?

Question: is the usb cable that is connect to the laptop and at the end of this cable is 25 pin contour, is the volts between the usb port and 25 pin contour 5 volt or is the rs232 unit 5 volt?

How do I check how many volts output is the usb cable and if it is 5 volts, how did you increased it 10 volts

The rs232 chip is supplied by the ar3000a by 5 volts how ever the caps are 22uf/16

When you are writing about spec are you talking about rs232 chip or line into the rs232 chip

If you any ideas please help, how did you fix your toshiba A60 problem

Thanks
Rui

Hi,let me clear up ,serial ports are communication ports and RS232 are the specifications set as a standard for use of this port (which pin used for xmit and rec pins, ground and power pins etc).On my toshiba A60 had a PCMCIA port and I found a adapter that supplied a serial that met the RS232C specs,
(PCMCIA - serial port). Now the laptops seem to only have USB ports ???. The only thing I can suggest is to find a USB to Serial Port adapter (that say the serial port meets thr RS232 spec.) Just this past month I ran into a problem with the USB port,I have one of those digital photo converter, wouldn't work with the laptop.I e-mail the manufactor and they told me that most laptops don't supply enough current for it to work.I just got a emachine tower and the digital photo converter worked (tower supply enough current for the USB port).Ray
PS I just got a serial port card for my emachine tower .
