So much for that idea. I have written over a number of my V-Scanner folders and changed the name. I just figured all of the states would be there. I see that St. Louis Co. is on the Statewide ARMER P25 Phase 1 system. There are 15 sites for St. Louis Co. alone. You would have to find the one in your area. There are free apps for programming the scanner. Personally, I prefer Butel ARC500, which is a paid program. I have programmed the Pro-197, the mobile version, by hand and it is no easy job. Programming software is a must. If you know someone in your area with a PSR-500, PSR-600, Pro-106, Pro-197,Pro-651, Pro-652, WS1040, or WS1065, you can clone their radio to yours using a mini TRS cable.

Procedure for cloning:
Connect the PC/IF jacks on the scanners with a mini TRS cable.
On the scanner sending the data:
Press PGM
Select GLOB (Press F3)
Arrow Down to Clone Send
Press SEL

I sent the previous post before seeing your post #41. We must thinking alike.

Hi. I have had this Pro 106 scanner for a number of years now, and it has worked just fine. I had it programed at Radio Shack from a CD. My Wife pressed some button on the face, and now I have no programs at all. Been trying for 2 weeks now to figure out how to reprogram it. Still nothing. Is there a CD That I can get that will program it back to my State, and County?? Thanks..

I looked up St. Louis and their public safety is on Project 25 Phase 2 which the Pro-106 will not receive. Sorry

That is St. Louis County in Minnesota that he wants. That is a Phase 1 system which will work on his scanner.

Now if I did clone. Is there a way to lock it in, so something like this doesn't happen again??,and will cloning screw up the sending scanner any??

As long as you do the clone send from the scanner that has the data that you want to send to your scanner, that will not affect the sending scanner. Just keep your hands off of your scanner. After cloning, the best way to protect the working memory on your scanner is to save it in several of the V-Scanner folders. That would make it unlikely that the data could accidentally get erased. If you had problems again, all you would have to do is load the working memory from a V-Scanner folder where it is stored. Those instructions are in post #35. I will give you the procedure for storing the working memory to a V-Scanner folder shortly.

Minnesota was never programmed in the 20 V-Scanner Folders. There used to be a table in the very back of the manual that listed each V-Scanner Folder and its contents. Minn was not in any of the folders. Your only hope was that a backup to a V-Scanner Folder was made but obviously not if the originals are still there.

I highly recommend AGAINST your only backup being kept on the scanner. Too much can go wrong and lose your backups. It is fine to have a copy on the scanner but the only safe way is to backup your configuration to a PC, USB drive using one of the programming software programs. The VOE is speaking here!

Procedure for saving working memory to a V-Scanner folder:
Press FUNC
Press PGM
Select Stor (Press F2)
Use Down Arrow to select V-Scanner folder
Select Stor (Press F3)

If folder is empty, at this point you can name the folder if wanted. That is time consuming and not really needed. Just make a note of V-Scanner number.
Select OK (Press F1) to store to folder

If folder already has data:
Select YES (Press F1) to overwrite V-Folder data
Select OK (Press F1) to store to folder

You can do this with several V-Scanner folders. It is highly unlikely that they all would be accidentally erased. As Swipesy suggested, to better ensure that the data will not be lost, you should read the scanner with programming software and store it on your computer.

Do you think I should still get that Butel ARC500 software?? Does that also come in a CD version??

Yes... lock the keypad... press "Func" then the backlight key. All keys will be locked until you press "Func"-backlight again, or turn off the power... you'll have to lock the keypad each time you turn it on.

You can download the software direct from Butel for a free trial. ARC500 Basic and an adapter cable between your computer and scanner is what you will need. You cannot read from or write to the scanner until you pay for the full version of the software. All you would have to do is go to the scanner tab, click on download from scanner, and do a save as under the file tab to save to your computer. You will receive free updates, if there are any. You can order and pay for a CD through scannermaster.com.

NO! DON'T TOUCH YOUR SCANNER! If you would accidentally hit the clone send on your scanner, it would wipe out the other one. Only put the other scanner in clone send.
