• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If you just use the file you have then there would be 2 radios with the same ID and that could make life very confusing.
If they have displays yes, for group contacts on radios with no displays, we've had no issues re-using the ID's when we clone the radios for simplex use. They squawk then talk using the same ID made no difference to some we've programmed. I don't know enough about his radio to know if it has a display or not, I do know the Btech does. We've done several Motorola SL 300 2 channel radios and honestly no one even knew or cared what the Radio ID was.

That being said, by convention I agree, it's better to have a distinct ID in each radio in a user group.

Yes but if you are going to do something do it right the first time.
Cloning Radios with UID's just starts a bad habit and when you start using Repeaters you see the outcome.
Just do it correct the first time.

Agreed. Like I said by convention it's better to have different user ID's.

I will see if i can change the new radio id so it wont be confusing
As @buddrousa it's a good idea to not duplicate IDs. That being said, you need to look at the radio's CPS you do have, and see if you can figure out what kind of numbering system they're using and try to stay away from that type of numbering system. Obviously you may not have access to every radio in your group to check but, perhaps you can see what they're doing and do something totally different on yours. On your Btech you'll see a number pop up when they transmit, on the other radios I don't think they had a display so if that's the case they won't see anything. In both the ham and commercial programming we often assign those numbers to a contacts list so for instance when radio 001 keys up, I'll name that radio "Bob" in my list in my Motorola and that's what I'll see when Radio 001 keys up (Bob). This is just an example.

New radio showed up today I programmed it with the original program from the radio I was using with the team. I then tested it with my btech radio and it works. Thank you all that helped me figure it out.
