To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Would it be possible to program the HT1000 with the CPS software, I think the computer is 600 or 800 mhz with xp, which I think is too fast for dos based (not windowed)programming via rss. So is it possible to use cps programming? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, its a good idea to save those old 386/486 DOS computers. You never know when you need one.

I have a pentium that runs win95. You can do it if its run from a dos prompt. There is no CPS that is windows based. All HT1000 RSS is DOS. MTS later versions were CPS.

No, you can not successfully run a Motorola RSS program under the so-called DOS that runs under Windows. You may be able to read the radio but odds are you won't be able to write to it. The only safe way to run an RSS requiring DOS is to boot into DOS directly, the best/latest version of which can be downloaded at several websites; the version is something like 6.2.

The commonly understood difference in usable platforms for Motorola radios is that RSS runs in DOS and any program known as a CPS is designed to run on 95/98/XP, etc.

Last DOS version was 6.22, and NO, its not recommended to try to run RSS in any kind of 'DOS window'.

Best case, it might work.
Middle case, it won't work.
Worst case, radio becomes brick.

Not a DOS box. When I open the Icon on the windows desk top the Icon opens C:/mrss/ht1000.exe the program runs stricly in DOS. When I close it it restarts windows.

Windows 95 and 98 both run a GUI from DOS. It looks like Windows, but the O/S is still DOS based, that is why there is a BOOTGUI option in the config program. RSS will run OK in a Win95/98 system, provided the CPU speed and cache are compatible with the DOS RSS which is very much clock and interrupt timing dependent.

Do you think that 600 to 800 MHz is too fast in MS-DOS? I did notice a create MS-DOS disk option in Floppy Format Option for XP, I know how to work with normal dos so I will not have a problem with that. So how fast is too fast for DOS, because I don't want a corrupted codeplug. I have also seen somewhere that a NTFS install of xp could cause a problem, is this true? Thanks for all the help.

If you boot into a true dos environment, those processor speeds will be just fine.

I program my HT1000s on a Dell D520 laptop which sports a Intel T2300 Core Duo 1.66 GHz CPU. No problems. I use a Windows 95 boot disk to get to dos.

You do NOT need win 95... just the boot disk. Do not muck about with an xp, ntfs, and all that... don't muck about with floppies. Get yourself a win95 iso (cd image). You can then add the HT1000 files to the ISO, burn the ISO image, boot the thing in your machine and run HT1000.exe. Optionally, you can use fdisk to format the hard drive of the computer and then sys c: the thing to make the machine boot into dos. Then simply copy over all the files from the cd to C:, create some directories for your archive files and you're set.

Win 95 iso's available at: AllBootDisks ISO Image Downloads | AllBootDisks - Providing Free Boot Disks from MS-DOS to Windows XP. (use win95b)

Yes... use something like magic iso

Using MagicISO to create ISO image files

it has free trial (you'll only need to do this once, right) and is limited to a 300MB write. What you're doing will be far, far smaller.

Use Magic ISO to add the HT1000 folder to the ISO. Then burn the ISO to a CD-R.

the config is a little strange... that particular boot disk drops you to an A:\ prompt...

it actually mounts the CD (where your HT1000) file are to R:

Watch the startup screen... where it says "DRIVE R: BANANA"

switch to R:\ by typing "R:" (without quotes)
then do a DIR

you should see HT1000 stuff there...try trying ht1000 at the R:\ prompt.

i - just today - switched from the Dell D520 to a Athlon 1800 machine using this same method. The config is weird because you're dealing with old hardware...

here are a couple shots... my HT1000s in front of the computer running RSS, and the DOS prompt I get after booting the win95b CD...

Yup, I know. 2 year old thread.

Excellent for newbs like myself.

I got a Pentium, 4 1.7ghz Laptop that is running Windows 95 boot disk, and HT1000 software seems to be running fine.

Got HT1000 radio, and Ribless connector on the way.

If the computer is too fast, am I likely to brick the radio, or will it just not flash the image correctly?

Should I keep looking for something slower?

Sorry for the necro :(

I'm trying to do what triptolemus suggested, and I have added my HT1000 files to the Win98b_bootdisk.iso file found in the link posted earlier. When I boot my PC, it starts Win95, but then stops doing anything after the "Device Name: BANANA" line. I just get the little flashing underscore, and nothing happens regardless of any keyboard button-mashing or waiting. What should I do?
