I too am excited! This reminds me of 1999 when the PRO-92 came out. Wow, scanning technology sure has gotten sophisticated in the last eight years. I think the PSR-500 is going to be really interesting. Can't wait to see what people think of it or what software gets developed for it.

I actually thought about doing that. But this is the pre-release thread and as Todd said, will probably be closed on Friday anyway.

Now a thread on how exciting we are at getting the 500 versus issues and such with the radio might be in order. Separate the wheat from the chaff.

Now to see if the Undeliverable Parcel Service will get it to me before 10:30 in the morning. Glad I am working from home. :D

1. Sharing the release and timeframe is technically "pre-release".

2. Back to more pre-release: Anyone remember that little hum when the Pro 92 or Pro 96scanner is in manual or scanning mode but not receiving a signal?.... Almost a pulse sound. I hope that will not be a 'side effect' of this model. Anyone who listened to a demo hear any of that stuff?......

Don't have that problem with either scanner.

Yeah, but Frank your older than me, so that is understandable.

I guess your hearing is worse than mine cause I can still hear it on every one of the GRE built RS scanners I own.

I wonder if your hearing microprocessor noise in the speaker when the radio scans through the channels? I hear it more when using headphones. Lets hope GRE has taken note of this for these new models.

Wow! Christmas Eve already!

Not sure what the pulse sound is. It can be a pain at times when listening to a channel with little traffic. Hopefully they have found a cure.

He he, maybe a day or two.

Yeah, many years on a flight deck caused some hearing loss, though thankful it wasn't enough for veteran bennies. But may have unknown benifets...especially if GRE hasn't fixed the issue. Plus I can watch TV, read paper, listen to scanner and listen to my bride at the same time (so she thinks).

Software

Radio here on Friday and not a peep from Don Starr.

Wild guesses on whether he releases software before the weekend?

I would assume that he has had a prototype of the radio since near the Dayton Hamfest. Which means he has had pretty good lead time. Wonder how much, if any, push GRE is giving him to release on time.

Pretty radical changes to WIN96 with all the additional options-LED, alarms, FAV lists, Temp lockouts, and most importantly virtual control.

Would be nice to have by Friday. If not, I have the bandages ready for the fingers by the time I'm done with the first round of programming.

That's a LARGE number of assumptions you're making about Don...

Last time I had talked to Don, he stated he was still working on the software.

remember he does have a full time regular Job. A Family and kids. He does his software when he has a few min. of spare time.

But I am also looking forward to his WIN500 software.

A couple question I couldn't find answers to on the boards. Does the PSR-500 solve the problem of my 796 with the volume control between analog and digital?? If it does I have a shot at talking my other half in to getting one. She doesn't say much, but when I have the volume turned up to hear analog, then digital come on, it is annoying to say the least.

The second question is does anyone know where I could get one that is not already sold out on presale?

Looks like GRE has it covered. The manual mentions an audio boost setting. AudioBoost Applies a 6 dB boost to audio levels when the object is active

SRCH Dig AGC, Sets digital AGC mode on or off for all search types.
Useful to compensate for low or high digital audio levels caused at the system.

SRCH SuprTrk, Alternative DSP decoding algorithm is applied to all search types. May help reception on some systems.

I'd say your a little late on the pre-order, but you could try calling Scanners Unlimited, Hamstation, or Grove.

GRE ships them out to dealers tomorrow (Thursday Oct. 18, 2007)!

I know Grove should still have some available to order from there 1st. shipment from GRE. The shipment is due to arrive on Friday Morning (Oct. 19, 2007)

go to http://www.grove-ent.com/

From all pre order sales, it looks like this scanner will be a hot item.
