I have only had this scanner for a couple of months and think I grasp the major functions of it. But a couple of 'quirks' I have noticed.. could very well be user error. These occur when first turning the scanner on.

1. Why won't the scanner always start scanning when I first turn it on? The initial 'POST' screen comes and goes, and sometimes it acts like the program button was pressed. (Program Mode)

2. My first bank or group has 3 conventional channels and about 2 dozen talkgroups that are part of a single Motorola type II analog trunking system. Many times it won't start tracking the Moto system. In fact a few times I have had to turn bank 2 on (which contains more talkgroups from same system) and then it will start monitoring the talkgroups in 1.

These are not big issues. But it would be great if it would just start doing what was doing before shutting off. This is a great scanner though!

1) It starts up in the mode you turned it off in
2) Double-check your scanlist programming, that's not correct.

Sorry to dredge up silly thread but I found out what I was doing wrong. I have the radio in a case and the display is dark so I am always quick to hit the light key. You must wait until the POST is complete before hitting the light key.

2. Is the system you're trying to track a multi-site system? I've had some problems with my 500 where a system I know is very active seems completely dead. I recently changed the multi-site setting for this system from STAT to ROAM and it has come alive. I honestly can't say that this fixed anything, I just know I went from maybe one brief exchange every couple minutes to the radio actively receiving something almost constantly.

BTW, just a nomenclature thing, but the PSR-500 does not have banks. What you're referring to are scan lists. "Bank" designates something specific in the scanner world and is not properly used with the PSR-500. Just something to keep in mind so everyone knows what you're referring to.
