Help! I need a "scanner guru." I live in Rensselaer County, just east of Troy. I've written for years about radio, but most of the scanner stuff in this thread might just as well be written in Martian (the southern dialect).
I run the Commuter Assistance Network on 146.94, and would like to be able monitor local law enforcement and fire activity that might impact the net (as well for my own personal interest in emergency communications). I have a BCD396T that was programmed by someone else, and I hear a lot of Troy EMT dispatch. I also have a BC125AT that I use to monitor State Police on 787, etc.
Anyway, could someone help put together a station that works? I am open to purchasing additional gear, if that is what it will take. PM me if you are willing to help.

How long ago was your 396T programmed? The Rensselaer County system now in dominant use is a P25 Phase 1 digital Simulcast system that has been evolving and adding county agencies over the past few years. If your programming is as old as the scanner, you're unlikely to be able to monitor what you're interested in without reprogramming the scanner. Even with that, you may have difficulty with the reception of the Rens. County system due to Simulcast distortion on the 396T. Considering currently available scanners, only the Uniden SDS100/200 and Unication G4/5 pagers can successfully deal with Simulcast systems.

The unit was programmed in Jan. 2018, but I don't know when the actual programming file was generated. I haven't got a clue how to "refresh" the programming.
Based on what you say, though, it sounds like I might be better off with a new unit.
With the SDS100/SDS200, is it possible to configure different "profiles," ie, one setup that would be useful for when I am running the commuter assistance net (mainly public safety) and another setup that would include a larger group of emergency frequencies like FEMA, etc.? Ideally, it would be possible to press a button (or key in a code) and instantly access one profile or another.

honestly it would be in your best interest to invest in a new scanner. you can setup quick keys and favorites to quickly switch between systems and channels. most of the fema channels are dormant until a large scale event that would require the system to go active, most of your local jurisdictions have moved to a county system which all have gone to a p25 minus schenectady county which there's rumors of them going p25 soon. if you have further questions please feel free to pm me and i can try to assist as much as possible.

first thing I'd do before you buy a new scanner would be to download the Proscan program and use it to reprogram the 396t. you get a 30 day trial with it and if you're already signed up for radioreference then you can import the radio channels you need and download them to the 396t.
Or you could get a proscan file from someone in the county and use that to reprogram the 396t. I use a bcd325p2 in the Southern part of the country and pickup 95 percent of what I need in the capital district, including cdta and the help trucks.

Anybody heard Rensselaer City Police lately? Its been quite a while since I Have heard any activity on TGID 232 on the Rensselaer County P25 System. Just wondered if Anybody Knew Any Info.

Just like the Troy Police before, one day you hear them the next day you don`t .hopefully it will be back on soon to add more chatter to the system.

Anyone else picking up talkgroup 152? Have any idea what it is? I have not heard it enough to do a decent ID.

Have heard activity on 206 which sounds like Troy PD surveillance/probation ,208,214,222,225,227,228,235 and 145 I only heard once or twice .not enough to figure out an ID. I have not heard TGID 152.

Just after I sent my message , I did hear TGID 152 sounds like they were mentioning Fire Departments in Saratoga County. I wonder what thats all about? Maybe some kind of county to county channel?

TGID152 on the Rensselaer County p25 system is the same as TGID 2111 EMS1 on the Saratoga County p25 system. maybe the same reason that Mechanicville is on the Rensselaer system

likely for interop mutual aid and/or P25 ISSI linking so each agencies radios can roam on the other counties system if they lose signal on their home system, really good interoperable stuff that P25 is all about. yea mechanicville uses rensco to enhance coverage

Just heard some traffic on TG 152 myself and can confirm is was EMS traffic and the dispatcher I heard is definitely a Saratoga Co dispatcher so I think the conclusion that it’s a patch to the Saratoga Co EMS talkgroup is correct. A number of RensCo EMS agencies go mutual aid into Saratoga County and vice versa so this sort of interop use definitely makes sense.
I’ll have to keep an eye on things going forward but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard traffic on this talkgroup that definitely is police surveillance type activity.
Can anyone Identify these TG's? I suspect at the very least a few maybe bad/false decodes. most have only a few hits on them.

Anyone monitor the standalone site in eagle bridge? Apparantly coverage was lacking in a northern pocket so theres a standalone site just over the border in EB. From what I've gathered its a standalone site the radios roam to from the main simulcast. I have not monitored this site but its not listed as a neighbor site as you'd see on systems such as saratoga co or albany co. Has anybody heard any of the new TGID'S as listed in the Rensselaer County database several weeks ago?, Hoosick Falls 208,HVCC 216, Nassau 209, NYSP 213, Rensselaer City fire 1006 and fire tac 149. just wondering if maybe they're for future use because I have not heard them yet.
