"W6N calling G7W"... Omega-TI's "Retro" post above is a scene from the James Bond film "Dr No". The scene features Dolores Keaton as Commander John Strangway's secretary operating a clandestine radio set calling MI6 in London. Strangways and her deaths result in 007 being sent to Jamaica. Here's the movie scene, complete with radio callsigns (the radio stuff starts at about 1:00 min into the clip). Keep watching past her murder to see the radio room for G7W in London -

I detest "political correctness", in any form and I will not allow anyone to control my speech through self-censoring or intimidation, and through it my thought processes. Until my dying day, I will still refer to a man as a man and a woman will still be referred to by me as a woman. If some Woke snowflake doesn't like it, tough. I'm not going to play the word game of the month to pacify anyone's creeping agenda.
I suspected that your original remarks, as well as those by prcguy, were meant as sarcasm, and my reply was, as well. No harm done (or intended). I agree that PC stuff is out of control. Moving on.....

I agree that we should move on also and not sully such a great thread with something controversial, albeit sarcasm.

Many great things about being retired, especially from a job in the public eye, I don't have to think about all of that nonsense anymore. Retirement is wonderful.;)

I enjoyed that movie "Dr NO" that was the first James Bond movie with Sean Connery, apparently he was very conflicted about tying up his career with sequel after sequel and being typecasted. I think it worked out pretty well for him.

I'm going to be looking for some contributions to make today.

And here's my contribution today... might bring back some nostalgia for some. This is Art Bell, longtime radio host of Coast to Coast AM, an overnight radio show syndicated around the world. He lived in a compound in the County of Nye in Nevada where he had a large antenna Farm.

Many a night when I rotated shifts and worked a 12 to 8, I would listen and enjoy his shows. Actually many a night when I worked day shift I would listen to him all night.

The show is still on today with George Noory (snorey) but I rarely listen as I find it boring and the topics unimaginative. I will listen to some of the guest hosts on the weekend as they're all very interesting and follow more closely to the theme of Art Bell.

He has passed on now for a number of years but I hope this brings back memories and interest.

I bet the cabling for all those rigs would be a nightmare.

Not to mention the enormous heat dissipation. That is likely just a mock up for the movie. I think there has been discussion here on RR regarding the antenna multicouplers for government listening stations.

well....... The Movie Dr. No, was made in October, 1962, so "valves" were indeed a reality back then. It was produced by Pinewood Studios in London.
I'm surprised to hear that, I thought that movie was introduced in late 1959. Who knows, I remember how old I was when I saw that movie...

I always thought it was weird how he slapped around and smacked the women in his movies. I guess times HAVE changed, LOL. Glad to see it.

I used to enjoy all the gadgets, including his mini radio and wristwatch radio.

RIF ...My apologies, the book was written in 1959 and the movie was introduced in late 1962. I was around 9 years old and saw the movie. What did I know then LOL.
