Which handheld would you recommend?

And I am answering. I live in the next county and travel to his area. HP2 is more than enough right now, in fact a 15X would receive most of what is on that system at this time since most of it is not digital.

I would not recommend anything that does not do Phase 2 digital. That being said, a Whistler TRX or modified PSR 800 or RS would work fine, the P2 works fine.
Remember that scanners in the car are illegal in NYS, so act accordingly.
