That sucks that the 536 is still doing this even with the new firmware, the 436 I have does not have this problem. (I still have to restart the scanner though to get the serial mode talking though)

I am thinking about getting a 536 just so I can broadcast it out, but if the serial interface is flaky then what's the point. People want to know who's talking.

Uniden thus far is addressing all issues and working there tail off or so it seems, so I have confidence that they will get the problems sorted out.

At some point I will add additional info in the near future but for now I just want to take a break from the programming and enjoy the scanner.

Of course that could all change tomorrow I may get an urge to add the uid.

I heard that. Back when I used to program with Quick Basic, which this project of yours would be perfect for, I did the same thing. I wrote a BBS software (remember those) for the Commodore 128. I downloaded the version of Quick Basic for Windows 8.1, and it has changed so much, I couldnt even figure out how to open the serial port :)

I always said I was gonna take a break from the BBS software too, then someone would log on, and I would see something I didnt like, and Id be right back at it again.

Does that compiler you use allow you to change colors on the screen? Ive never looked at Pascal. I gave up when they went to 16 bit processors. I had the old 8 bit ones down pat, even writing in machine code by hand for routines that needed to be faster than the basic compiler was capable of...but 16 bit changed things so much, and I didnt have the time to keep up with it. Now they are up to 64 bit, so I guess you never quit having to learn.

Wow I programmed in Quick Basis also many years ago and I wrote a BBS system using applesoft basic when I was 13. Fun times. Surprised Quick Basic is still around. Sure I can change the colors. Do you want me to add an option to set the window background and font foreground colors?

Yea, that would be nice, when you have time, and feel like messing with it.
I sure wish they would fix the bug in the scanner. I have to send the 536 off for repair today, so will be waiting for it to get back. Glad I got the 436 as a backup.

I love that color choice "Money green" hahaha

Glad you like it.

Have a question for you on your 436 with headphones do you hear a pop before a transmission and after it (dc bias) mine drives me nuts it's like some one is taping on my ear phones at times. I did not notice it at first but now it's somewhat annoying do not hear it via the speaker. I am wondering if my head phone circuit is messed up.

I just plugged in my headphones (full disclosure: powered, noise-canceling Bose QuietComfort 3) and have the volume on the radio set at 4. On digital comms, I get a very subtle pop at the beginning and end of each transmission, but it's hardly noticeable. I took the volume up to 11 and the pop was even less noticeable since the received audio was drowning it out.

Definitely nothing like the old Moto Spectra THUMP. I wouldn't have noticed it if people hadn't been talking about it.

I get the following error on my XP box after about 20 minutes of running the program. When this happens the BCD536HP reboots and goes straight to USB Mass Storage. I am not using the text to speech when this happens. On my Win7 box, the program runs fine with the same scanner. Just sharing....

Vonskie: No noticeable pops before or after transmissions using a cheap set of ear buds.

NYRHKY94: That is a bug in the 536 and/or its driver. They just released a firmware upgrade the makes it better, but does not fix it.

Mine did it for the first time since I've had the 536! I heard the USB drop out and reconnect. Had the box for abt a month now.

Just keeps getting better and better. Is there a way you can add what scanner has been detected and display it on the screen somewhere?

Man if this thing had logging it would be the cats Butt.....

My cat stinks at both ends. I can actually tell when comes on the room is she is grooming or yawning. Serious halitosis

Can't resist ...is "the Cats Butt" a good thing? Having a little problem with my visual perception of this!

There must be some here that remember Benny Hill....

He said, "I can see clear as a dye,
that cat coming in's only got one eye."
She said, "That cat ain't coming in, he's going out."
