What is the program I need for a "new" SD card for a HP 2?

Make sure to select the version for you brand of computer's operating system.

After formatting then use Sentinel to clear user data and reset the card.

Most SD cards comes already formatted as FAT32 and can be instantly used and configured in a Uniden scanner by the Clear User Data function in Sentinel. The same Sentinel version you use to program and update the scanners database.

Which version of Sentinel are you using?
The Orange Shield version is for the HP and the Green Shield version is for the X36/100/200 scanners.
Make sure you have the right version.

Your computer should react when you connect a USB cable to the HP-2. If not then the cable or the scanners USB port have a problem.
If the scanner asks to use serial or mass storage mode, then after selecting storage go to Sentinel and tick the box to display all drives in the Clear Data function.

When I power scanner up the screen tells me SD card access error and then the scanner shuts off. Cannot even get into mass storage mode to try to do card all clear. Like I said before I am using the orange sentinel so I know I’ve got the right Program.

I might add to this that this problem started after I was doing a update and we had a power outage for about 2 1/2 hours.

Ron

My guess is that I had a corrupt or got a corrupt card because of the outage, but I cannot even put a new card in it formatted or not.

Follow each step in order...

(1) Start with the scanner TURNED OFF...

(2) Connect the cable to the scanner and to the computer with Sentinel running,

(3) THEN turn the scanner on..

it should go right into mass storage mode, or let you choose mass storage mode. Then use the clear user data function in Sentinel, and select "display all drives" box in the clear user data window and follow the prompts.

Followed your instructions to the letter! Won't let me into "mass storage".
Goes right to shows the card error and then shuts down!

And this happens with more than one card? One you claim is new (never used before) ?

Did you use Quick Format or Overwrite Format on the new card? You need to use Overwrite Format, takes longer but usually works when setting up a new sd card for uniden scanners.

Sounds like one of 3 things....

  • Bad (or improperly formatted) SD card
  • SD card not properly seated in SD card slot under the batteries
  • Bad USB cable

Used a stand alone card reader to format the new card, used the overwrite format.
Know that the USB cable is OK (can use it to read other HP scanners fine)

What brand and size new sd card are you using? There are known problems with larger than 32gb, and with high speed sd cards.

Externally to the scanner format the card to FAT32 then, open Sentinel and select clear user data, check show all drives, then OK.
Card is now ready to use, download programming to card. Once program is on the card reinsert it into the scanner.
Any size card will work as long as it's formatted to FAT32 not ExFAT, any speed will work.
