There are guys selling USED units on ebay, and bidding is higher than for brand new units with warranty from a dealer. I can NOT figure that out. What kind of a nut pays more for a used scanner than a new one. And no, these do not have DMR or NXDN added.

Supply and demand. I know some dealers are getting them back in stock but some people can't wait. Remember what the gre psr800 was going for when it was oop and the only game in town for phase 2. Simple supply and demand and what Jon said holds true also.

I purchased three new SDS100s, one to own and two to sell, which I sold locally for $875.00 and $915.00 respectively. I've been "flipping" items for years and earn a nice income on the side doing so. The bottom line is that an item or asset is worth what a person will pay at the given moment the transaction takes place. It's all about supply and demand, and the free and open market. Isn't capitalism awesome?!

Typically, "flipping" is buying something cheap that needs work, repairing it (i.e. adding value) or rejuvenating it and then selling it. Sure, you make money but it's because you bought it below market value due to it needing some work then added value to the house or car or boat or whatever it is and then sell it at market value, in its new (after) condition, after the work is done.

What value did you add to the SDS100 before you sold it for these prices?

Or upgrade key(s). Regardless, if the buyer is willing to pay above market, and no fraud or deceit is involved, then more power to the seller. Selling snow cones to Eskimos and all that.

The value I added to the SDS100 prior to the sell is irrelevant. What's relevant is what the buyer determines the value to be at the time of the sell.

It's called capitalism (and that's not a bad word).

There's also the phrase caveat emptor. The two go hand in hand.

Free market or not, you are representing our hobby, and when the purchaser(s) realize they’ve been duped, they will look at the rest of the hobbyists and wonder if we’re all like that.
Sorry, but in my opinion and despite any previous successes had by others, your business model stinks.

Commerce depends on price competitiveness. Retail sharks depend on ignorance. All that matters is whether you can look at yourself in the mirror each morning and feel good about what you do. When I was a young man and first learning about this hobby I took a job at my local radio shack, and 2 years later was a store manager. I ended up quitting because basically it was my job to con and lie to people who tried to return their merchandise. RS actually had seminars that taught us how to play a customer until the refund window was closed, then give them store credit so I wouldn't lose my store commissions. Florida. Senior citizens coming in at the first of the month buying electronics they could not understand. I hated this aspect of the job so much that I walked. It's all about your character and how you feel about taking advantage of people. How you practice your so-called capitalism is the measure of a man.

I "duped" nobody. Both SDS100 radios were sold to people who are familiar with scanners, one being a Ham and another being a long-time radio scanner hobbyist, who is a member of RR. Both of these individuals were also aware of the retail price of the scanners being $649.00. I screw nobody in any of my business transactions and I'm very transparent with disclosing the retail price of any new items I sell. Have your facts straights prior to accusing me of duping people. I would think a retired police officer would understand that by now.

That is why I drove 90 miles one way FOR FREE to help a customer that asked a his dealer for help with a SDS100 the dealer called me and asked if I could help his customer which I did FOR FREE just to help a customer in our hobby. Both tried to compensate me and I would not allow it. To steal a line from a great President "Ask not what your hobby can do for you but what can you do for your hobby"
