Has anyone ever had trouble with Phase1 and Phase 2 scanning at the same time? The area I live in has both. I can receive mostly phase 2. The phase 1 is in the 171 MHz range and the 770 MHz range and the phase 2 is in the 850 MHz range. I have checked signal strength on a RTL-STR to make sure I get enough signal, I do. I can receive either or but not both at the same time. Any ideas about this?

Do you have each system in its own Favorite List? If so, is Monitor and Download ON in the Profile? Quick Key assigned if each system is in a Favorite List? Is the Quick Key number on?

All of frequencies are low traffic. We are in a rural area. I have each in its own favorite list. I do scan several favorite lists at one time.

I scan P1 and P2 systems concurrently. The vhf frequencies is something I don’t encounter on P25. Wasn’t there some recent bug with frequencies above 170mhz? I didn’t pay much attention because it didn’t impact me.

That 'bug' was on the 996P2. Firmware update was released to correct it. And it did involve frequencies above the 170MHz range

Did you create your own Favorite Lists, or Append them from the database? Using Sentinel to program? No issue monitoring multiple Trunking systems, just not practical as it slows down the scan speed.

What trunked system are you monitoring? I'm only seeing one talkgroup on STARCOM for your county, and it looks like all the conventional frequencies are analog.

I don't see any trunked systems in Adams County using VHF frequencies. What system are you trying to monitor? I see VHF frequencies on the Hannibal site of the MOSWIN system in Missouri.

I am monitoring both Illinois State Police in Quincy, Mendon and Kingston sites. Adams, Hancock counties in Illinois. Both are Phase 2 850 MHZ. I also monitor Missouri State Patrol in Hannibal and in Canton and various Missouri counties Ralls, Marion, Pike, Lewis and Clark that are in the 171 MHZ and 770 MHZ that are Phase 1. I live close to the Mississippi river. I do not monitor analog on the SDS 100. I did create my own Favorites Lists. I can scan either system but not both. I never get any audio from the other. I have tested this with other scanners and with sdrtrunk to make sure they are transmitting. I also tested this with Broadcastify. Yes I used Sentinel to program the scanner. I am up to date on the SDS software.

When you receive one of the systems fine, are you then only stationary on one single site and it is not scanning anything else, and you only have the scanner scanning when you try to monitor both systems?

edit: OK, you actually scan several sites in each system, so no system or site lock are used.

That is right. i have tried to scan several systems at once. For example, scanning 850 MHZ in Illinois and the 171 MHZ in Missouri. I normally receive 850 MHZ fine but no 171 MHZ. If I just scan 171 MHZ it works. Sense there is not much traffic on the Starcom side I added Moswin to justify the purchase of the unit. I scan 3 sites on the Starcom. Quincy, Mendon and Kingston. On Moswin, I scan 2 sites Hannibal and Canton. If I just scan Hannibal it works as long as I don't scan Starcom. If I scan Hannibal (171 MHZ) and Canton (770 MHZ) I don't receive anything on Canton. I am not scanning Starcom during this time.

That's strange. I can scan Ohio MARCS-IP and WV SIRN as well as all the conventional channels in my area without any problem.

Do you have Quick Keys assigned to your Favorite Lists? What Starcom site(s) are you monitoring? Sounds unusual you're not hearing traffic on Starcom, which could be the wrong site programmed, Monitor/Download not set to ON, Quick Key not turned on possibly?

It has to be soemthing wrong with quick key selection, if they are used. Then try instead to go into the menu and select list to scan and choose there to add the other favorite list. If it doesn't work then, without using QK, then it is really strange.

I trunk track more than one system on my SDS-100 at the same time without issue. But I am very careful with ALL the settings. From what you describe, it sounds like you have something ON in PRIORITY once you're scanning both systems. And it is best, but not essential, that you only scan the two control channels and not gobs of conventional channels until this figure this out.

To scan trunked systems, the receiver just needs to lock on to the active control channel. It will park there for a moment, look for any TGs you want to hear, then resume scanning. In your case it would just go to the other system's control channel and repeat. You could have issues if you've programmed/enabled more sites than you need (as the receiver could be searching for a better active control channel). Any time spent checking conventional frequencies will also take away time from the 2 control channels. Keep in mind during any time the receiver is away from one control channel, it will miss traffic from that system.

I do not use Quick Keys. I normally leave it set on Starcom or Moswin since I don't seem to be able to do both at the same time. i do not have priority set or active. Does the SDS only use one control channel? I am wondering that since one control channel would have to be on 850 MHZ and one on 171 MHZ that the unit can't do it Frequency wise. The sites other than Quincy 850 and Hannibal 171 are iffy most of the time.

What month is it?
gmclam was going in the right direction above (radio locks onto control channel/"park there")

Ubbe could tell you the exact time it "parks", but basically, your radio only has one tuner.
It "parks" on a control channel and listens for X milliseconds.
If it 'hears' a channel grant, it tunes to that freq. and you hear the traffic.
The radio is tuned to that freq until the transmission is ended, or you have set it to a neg delay.

If, after X milliseconds it hears no channel grants, it moves on.
Whatever the freq of the next control channel is, it just tunes and listens.
So..... it shouldn't matter if you are scanning 800 then 170.
If everything is set up properly, (antenna that is capable of both, all programming, etc correct), it shouldn't make any difference.

It is important to note here that being aware of how many SITES you have programmed, (and how they are programmed) is also real important.
The radio will go to each SITE you have programmed and "park" on it, for X milliseconds, listening.
Looking for a control channel, then "parking". Or, scanning all programmed freq for a control channel, for X milliseconds.

Also, location control can and does effect all of this. Set incorrectly or used improperly, it can certainly throw a wrench into the works.
