Wanted to update some frequencies on my SD200 today via Sentinel. While I was downloading the scanner info into my computer, a message came on the computer screen saying file was corrupt and it was unable to continue with the operation. I unplugged the usb cable from the scanner and the computer and have been trying to get the SD200 to update and the scanner screen is showing "SDS Card File Error use Sentinel clear user data" Only problem is, when I choose that option, the computer just shows me the "select micro sd window" but it has nothing for me to select in that window. I hit refresh and nothing happens. When I power down the scanner and power it back up again, the scanner screen shows it loading my scan selections but then it changes to the SD card file error message. I tried another SD card. Sentinel also could not find it when I tried to format it via the clear user data option. When I tried to force write the SD card, the scanner comes up with a "city data read error" message on it. Any ideas?

Check the "show all drives" in the clear user data dialog.

Pull the card from the scanner and use a card reader to clear data (via Sentinel)

Then reload data via Sentinel and put card back in scanner

Use a program called SD Formatter and reformat the SD card and then run the Clear User Data operation.

Was using an older Panasonic Toughbook computer when that happened. Hooked it up to my regular laptop and was able to reformat the disk. All good now. Thank you all.

My sense is that interrupting the write process before it is fully completed seems to be a common theme in SD card corruption. Power hiccups, cable disconnect etc. When that happens, some critical files are "messed up" so the scanner's card may not have, or at least show, the correct files for scanner operation. Hence the message you got.

Best chance of salvaging card is the Re-format/Clear User Data/Write Profile and full database including all Favorites Lists to scanner.

Another problem I noticed with SD cards in GRE designs was corruption if another USB device was plugged or unplugged while writing the card in a GRE designed radio.
I've never had a problem with any Uniden models like the GRE problem but I assume any USB device may be interrupted when another USB devices shows up or disappears on the bus.

Maybe some drivers or USB chipsets handle this problem better than others. I don't know that answer but I try and not insert or remove other USB devices while writing any type of flash memory device using the USB bus. When you think about it, inserting a device while writing a SD card could easily cause an interruption in the write process. Kind of like the old days of not interrupting the burning process of a CD!

Anyway, since I've started remembering to not plug or unplug a USB device while writing a flash device, I've not had any corruption whatsoever.

The problem with the USB function with GRE scanners are that the USB hardware in the scanner do not supply an identity, like Uniden does, so the port that are in use can easily be mixed up with other ports and drivers for other equipment, that also do not use any identity, and overwrite and take over the drivers configuration and port.

I have constant issues with the TRX-2 regardless of computer used and only use a cardreader to program. The problem are when a firmware upgrade are available and I have to delete drivers and reinstall them to be able to finally do the upgrade. After a couple of days the USB to the scanner are non working again.

That's exactly the problem Ubbe! No unique identity from the GRE designs.

Mine had done that yesterday. Took me an hour but I had to completely reset everything
