Make sure you buy the card(s) from a reputable dealer. China is pumping out counterfeit and poor quality cards by the thousands.

I would very much recommend that you download and try ProScan and ARC536, then buy the one you prefer. Either one is vastly superior for programming, IMHO.
I have ARC536 and its not optimal either compared to ARC PRO for the BCD 325P2 . I will learn to use Sentinel and for the limited amount of things I do with it and then be in a better position to judge whether or not I need to purchase anything, Arc Butel Pro made it super easy to use the database & program the P2. Unfortunately I have not had the same experience with the 536 version I put it down to the memory architecture of the SDS100.

Having one favorite list inside another makes no logical sense. You can't do it in any software. A new list is a new list, separate from the others.

Append to Favorite List is your best friend.
I know right? But here it is..I create a new favourite list...it gives me a + sign and favourite title.. I put the stuff I want in it..and then i go to create another list..Instead of giving me another + and title indepently underneath...it creates a little L and attaches it underneath the previous favourites folder..so I dont want that I delete it..and create another stand alone Fav with the radio + mark..and this one will not populate with the data I wish to copy....so I give up..and try again...and then just give up. As for not making logical sense..I agree..linking favourties lists under 1 root does not make any sense

I won't be recording and I only have a small portion of the MARCS system on the card I'm using now and many of the channels are avoided.
The key attribute is I N D U S T R I A L

Creating Favourites in Sentinel has been an issue for me..I have one stand alone list.
When I try to create a second..it wants to nest it underneath and connected to my 1...I dont want that I want a 2nd completely independent list..so I get that finally and I can't get the data to populate or copy to the folder...**** my life sometimes..spent an hour trying..gave up, Have 1 favorite list now and can select it or not..better than nothing :)
Please forgive me if what follows is incredibly basic, but it seems like there's a fundamental misunderstanding somewhere here.

When you open Sentinel the panel on the left has a hierarchical display. Mine has two top level items -- Database and Favorites Lists. "Favorites Lists" isn't an actual favorites list, it's a list of favorites lists. When I expand it I see my actual favorites lists. When I expand one of those lists I see the systems in that list.

You can do some amount of editing from this view but it's limited and if there's a consistency to it I've not yet figured out what it is. The non-obvious thing is if you want to mess with the favorites lists you need to click Edit and then select Edit Favorites List (or press Ctrl-2). You'll then get a pop-up with your favorites lists and you can select one or click the "New Favorites List" button to create a new one. From here you can
do more normal editing. Pay close attention to the tabs on the right side of the screen as they segregate certain items about the system/department you may want to change.

No worries..As I said i have had ARC Butel Pro for at least 2 years and got used to it..Sentinel is one of those things I am just going to have to deal with. Windows programs running on a Mac is a bastard at the best of times and this is just more so. I'll get there. I have one Favourite list and it loads correctly from the software to the scanner..I just need a way to create a couple more.

Did you follow the exact steps I outlined above to create a new Favorite? If so, screenshots for each step of the way would help.

I sympathize with the sub-node Favorite "phenomenon." It happened to me the very first time I used Sentinel:

+MyFavorite
-ANewFavorite

I was able to fix it by deleting and starting fresh. Later down the road I tried to repeat it and couldn't. To my recollection it had something to do with a padded space or a special character in the Favorite name. I'm wondering if an update didn't fix it. I tried to reproduce it here this morning but couldn't, but I'm using an existing file, not a new one. My ambition to reproduce it beyond what I just tried is low.

But yes, absolutely I had a newly created Favorite in Sentinel appear as a subnode under a parent Favorite when starting out with a new file and it drove me a bit batty till I did the nuclear option.

No. It's not creating a child object under your first favorite list. It's a sibling to the first favorite list, and a child of the "favorite lists" container object. You are completely misreading the display, and have clearly never tried updating multiple favorite lists to the scanner.

Seriously...we should just forget this for now..I have the ONE critical favorites list loaded (reliably) and I can select it , and move it from my computer to the radio or vice versa. The radio is working. I am going to work with it over the holidays and see what else I can prune/create and then hopefully get a 16gb SD Card to copy all the data to for a back up and then carry on. I appreciate the effort but reproducing failure modes would take a lot of time and not really be all that productive. I am on a Mac with a Windows 10 virtual machine..so there is that to contend with for me as well.. Its not that important really..I can deal with this.. Thank you for all of your very helpful suggestions.

Really....is that your most helpful response? ''have clearly never tried updating multiple lists'' really? Is that your attitude to tell me what I have tried to do? Thanks for your charitable and helpful response. Jonathan@Unidenscanners.com. I am sure your company would be proud of you.

Maybe it would help if you read my last post..as for the ignore button..it works both ways.

There are maybe a dozen or so people on this forum whose posts can be taken at face value. Jon Wienke is one of them. I would pick my battles very carefully.

... get a 16gb SD Card to copy all the data to for a back up ...
That's really not necessary. You can always read the scanner if you have to reinstall Sentinel. If the SD card in the scanner takes a dump, just buy a new one, reset user data and write to as usual.

In other words, you already have a backup.
