Should be fun to see all the posts on Jan 1st demanding the official announcement since, technically, it would be "January 2019." Lol...maybe.

the fcc data shows the manual will be Available 02/2019 wasn't the sds100 released just prior to the online manual being done?

Anyway, I'm cautiously optimistic about what the SDS200 brings to the table, but if one of those things isn't a true remote head, then waffles or not, I'll pass.

I'd be okay with a separate purchase remote head.....and waffles.

No need when they can make it removable similar to how Whistler did and several ham radios or other commercial radios do. No need for an additional purchase. To require that would be short sighted on their part...unless it is just for a cable or reasonably priced remote kit which utilized the existing head/face.

That's a good point. Maybe even a headless scanner with only a remote head, so as not to have to worry about a standard DIN sized unit. SDS500? Think SDS100 electronics, packed into a tight, easy to hide/mount body, with a standard DIN sized remote unit or palm/hand mic control.

There's no reason for a body/head unit anyway. The entire 396 could be placed into an RH96 head. The entire radio could be a "face plate".

If it costs any more than the SDS100, I'll pass. But if the price point is the same, I would probably go for it. -Unless it would do something that the SDS100 could not do, that would compel me to spend the additional money, and lose the portable-ness. Having a holder in the vehicle for the '100 works just fine for me, and I can unplug it's connections and remove it at will. We'll see.

Mine as well. Best portable I've owned thusfar
Best digital trunking scanners I have ever owned, and the clear choice to resolve simulcast issues. However, almost any of their previous XT or P2 radios does better with analog trunking or vhf.

I haven't had a single display issue on either of mine after 3, 4 years of ownership
Had one of the first 536 radios. It got so unreadably dim I stored it away unuseable. Then the repair program started up and sent it away. It is and has been a solid radio ever since.

The HP1 came out after the XT models I think, and the 996/325 are basically not new radios. Lots of other manufacturers have always been SMA, like ICOM. SMA is not a new thing, and BNC is not an exclusive format for scanners.
Bzzzzz....wrong answer. BCT15, 15X, 996T, 996XT, 536HP all BNC! In fact, most 'base/mobile' scanners are BNC. I can't recall seeing one in the last 2 decades that was SMA. So...be careful saying "every" ;)

This is my solution too. You can never have too many scanners.
Also, I wonder if Whistler and Uniden both have their new base unit scanners already made and sitting in shipping containers somewhere in the USA by now. So I am not a hater or a one sided fan I will buy both scanners from both companies to have two different flavors.

I am in for both no matter what.

What the hell are you doing with your radios that causes pieces to "snap off" easily?

In 30 years in the hobby I have yet to experience this. I wasn't aware it was a problem.
Ditto. Have two HP2 and an HP1. Never even close to such a problem.

As you know there is always going to be haters but Uniden better release something ... Hopefully its just not an SDS100 in a larger metal box.

I suspect that is exactly what it is, or they would not name it the SDS200
