That's nice, but not much different than what ARC536PRO does.
Unfortunately, an add on remote head would likely cost at least $200.00 (at least I guesstimate so). If Uniden was going to make one, it would have made more sense to design it in from scratch. Much like the Ham manufacturers do for mobile ham units.

Of course, we'll soon have the SDS500 with it's blue tooth connected remote head! ;)

I'd gladly pay $200 for a full featured, wired SDS200 remote head.....

That’s not a “Remote head” and will do no good in a mobile application.

So, is there a “Remote head” in development? I sure would like one. Hard to mount the “Box” in most vehicles these days, without it being obtuse.

Your opinion is duly noted. .....What would it hurt that we know this is something that may be offered in the future? Would sure sway me into purchasing one if there is, otherwise, I'll keep my 996P2, and use my SDS100 for mobile.
PAST HISTORY we were told something would be in the works for the X36's and it was very hard for UpMan to do anything for the WHEN WHY AND WHERE questions 20 and 30 times a day.

Thank you for your input.

I would love a remote head for my SDS200, just for the record... ;)

Well, if the reports are true and if the remote head is what I like to call a "true remote head" (i.e. powered by the base unit and can control the power of said base unit - two things the RH96 lacked), then I'd plunk down cash for both items immediately.

I'm not holding my breath, though.

The RH96 didn’t do well in the marketplace and was discontinued. (I still have mine stashed away in storage and would entertain selling it if it wasn’t such a chore to dig it out!) I found the RH96 bulky, ran it for awhile and when I upgraded my scanner I put it away. I didn’t have a problem with it not having a power switch as my mobile installation took all power from the accessory side of the ignition switch, never having a problem with degrading the SD card or maintaining memory. (I just had to remember when making changes to my scanner to turn the scanner off using the prescribed method in order to allow the scanner to write my changes to memory before it shut down.) But that’s just one install. I don’t know if others had a problem powering their scanners this way but Uniden’s recommended method of divorcing power (using the scanner’s on/off switch) was the rule of the day. They never entertained my alternate method in any threads I associated with.

Im using my RH96 on my BCD996P2 now so I love it again. I have no issue with it, But if a new scanner that didn't suck (TRX-2) came outh with a remote head I would be all over it

Alinco has the right idea for a remote head! Why have to pay a high price for a second one when you already have one?

I agree. The lack of remote head or some other option, for vehicle use has pretty much been the "deal breaker" for me.

I was hoping for a detachable face/remote head feature on what eventually became the SDS200. I'd have one now if that's how the final product was configured. It would be interesting to know if Uniden ever considered that route, but for obvious reason we'll never know.

How so? If it is under development, or is a pending offering, we will know.

The SDS200 was made to be a very expandable scanner. I foresee several additions and improvements as they continue to evolve.

I was referring to the detachable faceplate style remote head, which obviously isn't a feature of the SDS200.
I thought you meant a remote head that was an add-on

I've got to agree that the radio itself should have been designed with a removable front panel, like @iMONITOR showed and is a common design in many amateur and commercial transceivers. An after the fact remote head seems to be an expensive duplication of effort.

I wonder if Uniden underestimated the userbase and potential popularity of a remote head scanner. Today's vehicles just don't have the mounting space for anything much larger than a control head (and sometimes that's pushing things).

Especially when the SDS200 is a "box" compared to most mobile radio's and traditional scanners.

And again go back and search the forums you will find the following request these were not my wishes but posted here in the fourm by many now fussing about what they got, I do like the idea of a remote head but my $99 8 inch or 10 inch tablet and proscan works for me.
#1 I wish we had a bigger scanner like the BC8500 or BC9000.
#2 I wish we had a dedicated battery and external charger.
And now that we have it the same group is crying about not being able to use AA batteries and that big box SDS200.

Some people are just never happy, I guess. I remember when the older, pre DMA portable scanners had those cordless phone type of battery packs. People were whining that they wanted to be able to use AA batteries. Then, when Uniden went to AA batteries for the x36HP and other scanners, it was back to whining about not having battery packs.

I'd have preferred a remote head ala the WS1098, but I'm lucky that the SDS200 fits in my truck with no issues. As others have pointed out, it would have been less expensive to have built that capability in from the start. Even if there was an optional "Separation Kit" like my Yaesu FT8800 has, it would have been fine.
