Sorry if it's a dumb question but, does Sentinel need the entire scanner in order to program or, can just the card be programed with a pc reader/writer? Thanks!

You can write to just the card in a reader with Sentinel. If it's a blank card (new or newly formatted) or a card that hasn't previously been written to with Sentinel, you will need to use the "clear user data" function first before you can write to the card with Sentinel.

And if you take a card from a scanner and load it in a computer's card reader, you can even do full database updates and more importantly, any firmware updates. If it's a rare firmware update situation, when you do the f/w update then put the card back in the scanner, the latest firmware is loaded. Follow instructions on scanner how to finish it up.

The ability to update a scanner by taking the SD card out and using a computer card reader is very helpful for scanners mounted in vehicles, etc. and getting a computer to them is a pain.
