Am I the only one who wishes the SET SCAN SELECTION menu item would go 1 step deeper? Currently, you can select FAVORITES on and off, and the next level select SYSTEMS within the FAVORITES to on and off. There should be another level to turn ON and OFF Departments within the SYSTEMS.

Favorite (Evansville AREA) which holds several systems say Vanderburgh P25, Detention Center, Evansville Water, etc etc

Currently the SET SCAN Selection will let you choose Favorites under the Manage Quick Key Status and also Systems under the same, there is no 3rd choice to set Departments quick key status. Seems like a no brainier to add the Department quick key to that menu.

So it would be SET SCAN SELECTION......MANAGE QUICK KEY STATUS....DEPARTMENT QUICK KEY. currently for the SYSTEM Selection you have to say which FAVORITE first. So I would guess to set up the Department quick Key status would require input of FAV/SYS first.

Or am I the only one???? Doesn't seem like a difficult firmware change.

Before anyone asks this refers to the SDS series scanner specifically the SDS 200

What you suggest is highly useful. I turn depts. and sites on and off all the time with quick keys. That requires knowing the quick key assignments though. It would be easier through the menu.

That is exactly the point. If you have several FAV lists each with multiple SYS in them, who can remember what number was assigned to any particular department. (Unless you do a cheat sheet)

It would help a lot to expand that quick key status to also include departments and sites.

Uniden can do a lot to improve their scanners but I think they have stopped development, without charging for it like the do with the waterfall feature. They have no real competitors to their trunktrack scanners so don't have any real reason to make their scanners more attractive. It wouldn't boost sales one bit for them if they put time and money into adding new features to old scanners. That's something they do to a new scanner model to make people want to upgrade.

I don’t use QK’s and I can turn on or off FL’s, Depts., and Channels in the menu… or am I missing the OP’s meaning?
I was referring to something like 1.5.6 and not having to remember thousands of such quick key combos.
Favorite 1, System 5, Dept 6

If a QK is NOT assigned the scanner will scan it regardless. So it would be like scanners of OLD where you did a push button ON and OFF for each channel. Not feasible with multiple Favorites each having multiple Systems, with each system having multiple Departments

Or prepend the Quick Key to the name.

Set Scan Selection only allows selection of FLs (and/or Main dB), not Systems.

Ok. It’s apparent I missed your meaning. Thanks for the clarification.

Actually, it does select Systems..

Set Scan Selection.....Manage Quick key status....System Quick Key (select the FAV list) which brings up the Set Quick Key Status. So you can turn ON/OFF your systems in the list. I just wanted to one level deeper and do the same for DEPT.

Quick keys are simple and if you arrange everything in a logical manner very easy to implement and remember. The display will even show you the status of the favorites, system and depts. Trying to drill down through the menu is a very convoluted method of accomplishing a simple task.

Maybe if you have a simple setup. Try four of five Favorites each with several Systems and many Dept

This is a quick menu driven method and does not require you to remember which QK you assigned to what.

The last pix lets me turn ON/OFF the Systems in my FAV called Evansville AREA. All in just a few key presses with having to put in say 0.5
or guessing which QK goes to what System. Could I remember say KY State Police was 0.6 maybe but maybe not

So why not just set the Department's Avoid status as desired?
Well, I don't always listen to everything and may change FAVs or SYSs, and sometimes DEPTs TGs. In other terms my programming is not static and changes constantly depending on what I wish to monitor. Maybe I want to hear Animal Control when something is happening with animals in the neighborhood, but mostly NOT. QK like 1.5.4 is easier but who can remember what numbers was assigned to say ANIMAL Control in EVANSVILLE AREA FAV months ago.

Also, some people like say @buddrousa like multiple scanners and I doubt any of them are programmed to exact same way. I have 2 SDS 200s and even the 2 have different programming

There is no easy solution to your complex scanning desires. So I’m thinking the quick key route is the better but not perfect answer.

No issues with QKs I just wanted them to go the menu route 1 step deeper into DEPT QKs. Right now you can do FAV and SYS QKs in the menu.

I use QKs on multiple scanners and keep track by using ARC to make HTML cheat sheets that I save in the cloud. The sheets have the scanner model in their name and the sheets are always available on my phone.

That is all well and good if you always carry your phone. Some of us don't have a phone with us 24/7 and who wants to carry around multiple sheets of paper with all the QK's listed
