Sad News.....

Gents,

We here in Shreveport, LA have a VERY active Skywarn group. Class will be held this coming Tuesday at the North Market branch of the Shreve Memorial Library System starting after a brief "business meeting" of the Amateur Radio Club of Shreveport (ARCOS).

I've had the Basic & Advanced classes and hoped to get the "Certified #'ed certificate", but the local Wx Service office personel decided NOT to give out any further 'graded' certs. The Advanced class I took, I got the Basic certificate, AGAIN. ?? All three certificates would have looked nice on the wall, in the shack, LOL! Well, I *did* use to be a 10/10 International "certificate chaser". But now I just chase grid squares and counties. ;-)

Respectfully,

Don/KA5-LQJ

Grid Square: EM-32cl

County: Caddo Parish, LA.

I was originally licensed as kc2iyh and now known as ke5sua. I have been skywarn trained since early 2002. I have reported weather in Buffalo NY, Houston TX, Northwest Arkansas, Colorado, TN and now the Oklahoma Panhandle.

Skywarn trained and fairly active

Organized Skywarn and ARES comes and goes in Oklahoma County but our Norman NWS office always monitors a semi-dedicated repeater. A couple of our hams got some practice with an EF0 and EF1 two days ago (May 7, 2008)

By the way, I can post pictures of Advanced Spotter Training certificates received from the National Severe Weather Workshop, and also point out the fact that the regular training sessions give certificates to law enforcement and firefighters for continuing education credits. So, yes, you can be certified (at least in Oklahoma.)

And I'm guilty as charged on the certifiable part too.
