Still picking up Stark system but not as great since the East Sparta Tower went down or whatever they did.
Hopefully that Minerva site comes online and helps out my signal.

When you say you are still picking up the Stark system, are you referring to the current Canton-Stark Motorola Type II system that they will be decommissioning in January? Or do you mean the new Stark County Simulcast (2-063) on MARCS-IP?

Either way, the turning down of the standalone Cloverdale, Massillon and East Sparta MARCS-IP sites have nothing to do with whether you would pick up either of the simulcast systems better or worse. The sites that were turned off were Standalone sites.

Minerva might give you a better signal, but it is not / will not be part of the Stark Co Simulcast, and as such you won't hear all of the activity on Minerva that you hear on the Stark County Simulcast. You'll hear more local traffic, local to Minerva area -- OSP running around Minerva, APA, Minerva Fire/EMS stuff, and Stark/Carroll/Columbiana Co Sheriff units and such that happen to affiliate with that site.

The new Simulcast.
It’s coming in just jumping in and out 1-3 bars & choppy. Windy out.
Once I put up the other Yagi and tune in the one that’s up it should work out ok.
Hopefully

Yes, I need to do a scan to see if Minerva is up and operational. And I wonder what they are doing with the Paris site (Stark System), will that become part of MARCS-ip

They aren't using one tower. They are using 11 sites in a simulcast configuration, and adding a standalone site for Minerva coverage. And it's not intended for people from Youngstown to monitor. It's intended audience is Stark Co (and at the most the very fringes outside of Stark Co).

Mike

Knox tower, Alliance is a fill in site, it is closer than Kensington Site 010 which I receive but not Knox Site 077; Minerva will also be a fill in tower to improve coverage

A tad off topic here but when you add a tower site (MARCS) do you keep all the frequencies that are in that site or do you just keep the control and alternate channels and delete the rest ?
When I add a tower site I just leave it like it is. But it’s a little slow on scanning.
I’m scanning 8 tower sites though.

Whether it's a single tower site or a simulcast site, you only need the CC and AC frequencies.

If I understand your question, you are trying to monitor multiple Sites. It depending on which brand of scanner you have and also how you have the Sites setup (stand alone Favorites or Scan lists). In general a scanner will sit on the first Site that is active. When that Site is no longer active, the scanner will go to the next Site.

FYI, P25 trunked systems are not scanned. They are active or not active. Conventional frequencies are scanned.

I’m scanning 8 tower sites though.

Answered above. P25 Trunked Sites are active or not active. Your scanner will stay on a site as long a it's active.

Typically, the only way to reduce the amount of time your scanner stays on a site is to limit the number of TG's, set delay times to zero or one second and turn off Wild Card Searches/ID Searches.

MARCS

Does the reception seems to be really bad on the stark county MARCS simulcast ? I could pick up the cloverleaf MARCS tower in Massillon at 99% now that’s it’s simulcast just can’t seem to pick anything up very well.

I am in the Hartville/Uniontown area and can only get the control channel at 48% sporadically. I am using my Radio Shack 652 with the 800Mhz antenna.

That's a fairly normal occurrence when trying to listen to a simulcast P25 system with a scanner that doesn't officially support simulcast P25 systems. The only scanners/devices common on the market that fully support LSM are the Uniden SDS100 scanner and the Unication pagers, aside from commercial radios.

The difference is that the old Cloverdale MARCS site was a single site, not part of a simulcast. The new Stark County Simulcast site for MARCS replaces that. The simulcast site includes 11 physical site locations (including Cloverdale).

It is likely you are monitoring using a scanner that does not support LSM. The only scanner that does support LSM is a Uniden SDS100.

You'll have your good and bad days trying to monitor the simulcast site, depending upon the day, the weather, your location, etc.

I’m using a RadioShack Pro-106 scanner. I guess it will be a good thing that Christmas is just around the corner and I can get a new scanner .

Yes, if you can swing it, the SDS100 would definitely be worth if it you like to monitor Stark Co (or Summit, which is also P25 simulcast).

I can confirm Mike's suggestion about using the SDS100 for the new Stark Co Simulcast site. I have been using a TRX-2 to monitor the current and soon to be replaced Canton/Stark Motorola site which worked flawlessly on the TRX-2. I programed the new Stark Co Simulcast site into my TRX-2 and I'm quite disappointed as it does not work that good at all. I purchased a SDS100, programed the new Stark Co Simulcast site into it and it works perfect. I have it set for ID Search and I'm picking up several surrounding counties along with OSP Canton and North Canton FD which are now operating on the new Stark site. Whistler will also be releasing their LSM capable scanners in Q1 of 2019.

How's the SDS100 perform in noisy areas such as the Strip area, has anyone used one up there yet? I'm really trying to decide on either the G5 or the 100.
