They gotta be building that out for more state agencies than just KSP. . . 6 Voice channels per site. Be so nice to pick their brain just to see what they have in mind, but I'm sure they won't be saying much.

They had a bad experience long, long time ago when someone hacked their system and was calling in bogus help calls. Ever since then, they've held cards very close to their vests.

6 RF channels per site is pretty standard for Motorola systems. The site equipment is referred to as a “6-Pack” and is shipped pre assembled from Motorola.

Some people can't keep a secret for more than about 15 minutes.

I recall at East Baton Rouge we had 9 channels for dispatch and one control channel, we had different agencies, DPW,Law Enforcement. Divided between East and West Baton Rouge Sheriff's, Pointe Coupe Sheriff, New Roads PD Baker and Zachary Police. We did not have encryption however certain divisions at EBRSO had the capability. Baton Rouge PD had their system .We never had interoperability until 2007 when we came on line with the State Police in Louisiana.

Go to Kentucky State Police Headquarters at the Capitol and ask them very nicely what is being done with our tax dollars with respect to the 'new radio system'.

Tell them to hurry up and get it on the air so you can listen to them and tell them NOT to go encrypted.

100 percent don't want them to go to the big E, but talk to a state trooper and let him tell you how outdated there system is, how when you don't have cell service and your so called waste of money radio will not get out. I hope it's not you or a family member needing help and there radio is not working .. Sorry rant over.......

Depends on coverage, who can afford it, and any grants left available.
Departments that are used to $2500 repeaters and $500 radios are going to be in sticker shock.
When my old Department upgraded we moved to new DMR 35 Walkies and 20 Mobiles and DMR Repeater for the price of less than 15 State System Walkies.

I encourage them to proceed slowly and not get into a rush. This is an important system and all care and caution to ensure it is done correctly, is vital.

Was in the W Ky area last week and heard alot of Encrypted Traffic on the KY State Trunking System.
Driving in the area was not able to tell if it was patched traffic of Radio Shop Testing or what.

As of this date TG 50001 is still patched with Post 1-B UHF.

I heard it was cause the depo is shutting down the state is losing alot off grants cause of that
