Have had time to back over previous logs and noted on 05 October 2018

ZJ121 43C070 EH10 helicopter
ZJ129 43C224 EH10 helicopter

as callsigns ASCOT 20 and ASCOT 21

The 243.550 freq was mentioned on Atlantic City Radar of 124.600. It was not on my scan list generated from various sources for potential monitoing while the carrier was off the coast. Have placed it in the scan rotation of the Icom in case they pass this way a bit closer next time.

USS Sioux City to Visit Annapolis

Future USS Sioux City skipping port visits to make it to commissioning site on time

The US Navy’s future littoral combat ship USS Sioux City (LCS 11) will have to skip two previously planed port visits to arrive to its commissioning site on time, the US Navy has said.

LCS 11 is scheduled to arrive in Annapolis, Maryland, on November 11, seven days ahead of the ship’s commissioning ceremony at the US Naval Academy, Nov. 17.

Following a delivery ceremony at the Fincantieri Marinette Marine shipyard in Wisconsin on August 22, the future USS Sioux City got underway en route to her commissioning site.

After conducting a visit to Montreal, Canada, Hurricane Oscar-related inclement weather delayed the ship’s departure. Due to this delay, the ship will proceed directly to Annapolis bypassing two previously planned port visits.

The Freedom-variant littoral combat ship (LCS) is the first ship named after the fourth-largest city in Iowa, Sioux City.

The ship’s sponsor is Mary Winnefeld, the wife of the former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. James “Sandy” Winnefeld.

The LCS class of ships consists of the Freedom variant and Independence variant, designed and built by two industry teams. The Freedom variant team is led by Lockheed Martin (for the odd-numbered hulls, e.g., LCS 1). The Independence variant team is led by Austal USA (for LCS 6 and follow-on even-numbered hulls).

Today westbound thru the Med to Lajes is TREND 1-6 and McGuire KC-10 BLUE 53 meeting them.
EA-6B's from VMAQ-2 Cherry Point MCAS.. The last of the EA-6B's due to retire in 2019.
Probably their last deployment downrange.

CH53 loitering in the area today

1350z
Had a CH53 ( 165345 / AE4BB6) USMC roaming the area this AM.

Call sign sounded like 'Hunter11'.

Spent about 20 minutes in the general area. Then spent the last 10 of those circling a nearby quarry area at ~ 500' before departing to the west.

It then overflew the Schuylkill river into Philly where it picked up the Delaware river north before returning to McGuire / Dix.

Do these units have any particularly specialized function that may help understand the interest in the quarry area ?

Haha. This guy banked that turn above the Schuylkill almost over my house. Talk about noise. I tracked him then (they don't often show up), and he followed the Schiylkill all the way down thru downtown Philly to the Delaware. He flew about 175-200 ft over the river thru the city. I'll bet that got some people's attention. He then flew up the Delaware toward Trenton and eventually turn east to head back to McGuire.

When I saw him, he was 3 miles away. Went outside but couldn't hear him.

He was radioing Wings every so often to indicate position, 'over the quarry'.

My mapping was very erratic due to his altitude and my antenna (3 incher that came w/ dongle sitting on outside 1st floor windowsill). Didn't see actual pattern until I looked up online.

My neighbor has a one story stone home that my antenna faces (~100'). I get some good signal 'bounce' from the stone. Regular tracks down close to Dover. My antenna is on the NE side of home so anything S/W is coming through the property or bouncing to me.

Have a 10' mast outside but haven't got around to putting together a 1090 antenna.

That CH53 was loitering just west of Trenton yesterday. Heavy lift squadron out of McGuire.

Noticed a couple C-17's now flying for 911AW Pittsburgh recently.
They were being operated by Ohio 445 AW but now showing the PITT ## callsign like their old C-130's did.
96-0001 and 93-0601 both originally 62AW McChord C-17's logged so far using PITT callsign.
Pittsburgh ARS will get 8 C-17's eventually..Big construction bucks converting to the C-17 by end of 2019.

https://www.afrc.af.mil/News/Articl...gh-unit-making-the-switch-from-c-130s-to-c-1/

So if you catch a PITT ## inbound Andrews,Dover,McGuire it is a C-17 now :)
