WIDE-28 went SE offshore NC Outerbanks at FL350.. Guess a alert tanker for someone offshore
like a P-8A.. Strange.. Maybe someone working offshore just south of Bermuda.

There has been some sort of drug interdiction going on in the Caribbean the last few months. A few days ago there was a KC-10 refueling someone there. San Juan center freq has been offline for a few months so I couldn't get comms on it. There was also an E-8 joint stars there Monday.

Is it my selective memory, or haven't the tankers typically stuck with 'visible' ADSB modes in the past?

1028- Tanker is Advice 99 (substitute tanker??). Cosmic 11 flight vacating CAP. Advise Huntress they are on way back to McGuire.
See my morning post Ron.. Had no tankers for a while.. There was a KC-135 out of Pittsburgh
that went up and rtb right away leaving CAP with no tankers.
Imagine Tacan freqs would just be digital noise for navigation instruments.
Just heard COSMIC on A/C appch 327.125 mention inbound McGuire.. Odd operating out of McGuire.
Maybe a bit closer to scramble?
Scramble has 89-2138 as F-16CM 125th FS Oklahoma. Guess thay are TDY at Savannah this time like the
Oregon F-15's did a while back. Why do they not TDY at Andrews?

I have seen stuff online before that the tankers use the Tacan freqs for interplane comms while refueling. I guess less chance for interference during the close in hook up & unhook phases.

Rgr but usually see them use SPUR 51-54 etc.. Sometimes stopping at MacDill Fla.
They are keeping busy down there.. WIDE-28 so far has not returned.. Maybe stopped in Bermuda as was heading not far from there.

Was thinking that maybe they use Savannah as temp base for Potus CAP' fighters cause not
sure if Potus will Holiday in Florida or the Camp? Thats my theory and sticking to it :) Lol.
Last Thanksgiving Potus did Florida for 4 days.

BTW what happened to FAA tail site.. Been down for weeks if not month?

I'm no expert but my understanding is they are setting the TACAN freqs. to display the DME distance between each other on their nav instruments. They call it "Yardstick". Voice comms don't really make sense because of the interference plus I'd be very surprised to learn that it is even possible with standard avionics. Even military, but maybe ? Do you remember the reference ?

Here is an explanation from the sim. world that I believe is taken from real world ops.

Sorry, Saw stuff years ago and didn't make notation on source. If I remember though, the source mentioned "comms" and I probably mentally thought of voice but DME info make more sense.

Thanks

Somehow I missed reading all of yesterday's CAP posts. Then earlier this morning I saw the USPP heading up that way, but with not seeing any tanker activity and the helo circling like a SAR mission at the park there I figured nothing was happening. I guess POTUS is letting HMX-1 have the whole weekend off.

With a better camera lens now maybe I can get a photo during one of their passes if they stay more to the west.

NOBLE11 IDed as 89-2017 for this current AR with the new tanker.

Actually, WH just said Marine 1 left Camp David at 10:20am and landed at Trump National Golf Club at 10:47am. Meanwhile Melania is at Mar-a-Largo.
That explains once of the pilots asking if the TFR was still “not being enforced” or something like that.
