I really enjoy listening to BWI Potomac approaches North and South (119.000) (119.700)

I’ve been noticing for a while now on Flightradar24 that most if not all aircraft that come from the south to BWI have always seemed to check in from the Baden area up to Shady Side. I was just curious as why that was and what could they be monitoring prior ? i apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to ask. Sill a newbie !
