Fort McNair is the backup landing zone for Marine One when the WH South Lawn is out of service. Not sure why South Lawn can't be used tomorrow however.

Local news report says Potus wants a 2 week vacation but not sure where between Home and Beach house.
Seems locals at beach get mad with restrictions so he knows that.. Talk of splitting 2 weeks between Home,Camp David
and the Beach. DC-ites are out of town soon for the rest of August.

BTW last evening had Tropo coms I believe on 336.100 which I have as A/A 336th FS out of SJ.
These coms sounded like a Heavy talking to a base about 50k ramp upload.. any ideas?

The Ellipse was the backup location not long ago when there was construction on the South Lawn.

My guess is that they used the ellipse because they needed a backup landing zone for an extended period of time as opposed to a one off. Fort McNair was last used by Marine One on Aug 26 2020 to take POTUS to Baltimore because south lawn was set up for RNC.

Looks like POTUS will be headed back to Wilmington Monday, after the weekend at Camp David. FAA Safety Team just issued new Notice for Aug 16 to the 22nd.

Well here is a first !

I’m picking up a controller from what I believe is from Dulles on 335.5000, I’ve checked the maps for the aircraft he mentions and boom, all of them have flown out from there. I guess these storms made some nice tropo !
