Does anyone know if Quantico (NYG) still takes C-17s? I learned recently that HMX-1 now flies their helos to ADW to get picked up and flown out for POTUS support.
Yes noticed shortage of C-17 traffic to Quantico as I usually hear them depart McGuire,Dover
calling Quantico Ops right away.
Seems runway 02/20 is closed to fixed wing traffic till 4/29 for now.

Issuing Airport:(NYG) Quantico Mcaf (Turner Fld)
NOTAM Number:M0137/22
Effective Time Frame
Beginning:Tuesday, February 22, 2022 1200 (UTC)
Ending:Friday, April 29, 2022 2359 (UTC)
Affected Areas
Runway:02/20
Operating Status:Closed
Closed for Aircraft Type:Fixed Wing
Additional Text:ACFT.

Other NYG Notams from there show beware cranes etc so must be lots of construction going on.

Notam on runway 02/20 ends April 29 but could be extended from original Feb 22 listing.
Runways 02/20 are short enough as is as C-17's come in with light fuel loads just to get off the ground :)

AirNav: KNYG - Quantico Marine Corps Air Facility (Turner Field)

One good way to see Quantico is by Amtrak train out of DC Southbound as rail line cuts right thru it.
On your right window out just out of of Lorton Va you will see endless gun ranges for FBI/DEA/ATF. Got to be 25 ranges at least.
Then out your left window a few minutes later along Potomac River you will see MCAS Quantico with its short runways.

Seems like all the ANG C-130's wind up down in Little Rock. Thats where Maryland lost their C-130J's to
for training the USAF said then we had C-27J's for short time before USAF dumped them off to the Army.
Now have only Maryland ANG A-10's and the USAF wants to get rid of them too :(
Seems like everything is down South now.. Just look at ADSBX any given time down South a ways from Texas to Florida.

Four KC-46s, BLUE 21 through 24, coming from Moron AB to Bangor and then McConnell AFB.

Well, BLUE 21 has already made a liar out of me, it's not making the BGR stop this time. ;)

From the ACARS chitchat, BLUE 23 took off with a fuel load figured on a 1000 pound payload and then saw that the actual payload was about 40,000 pounds. Dispatch reran the flight plan with the new weight and they were good to go with the stop a Bangor.

Some text messages from the dispatcher (Flight Manager):

COPY. WAS NOT SURE SINCE YOU DID NOT DO AN INITIALIZATION. BTW WX CANNOT RESPOND TO THE WIND REQUEST MSG. THAT MSG FORMAT WASNT IMPLEMENTED PROPERLY ON OUR SIDE.

HOW MUCH FUEL DID YOU DEPART LEMO WITH. I AM SHOWING YOU BELOW WHAT YOUR FLIGHT PLAN ORIGINALLY WAS PROJECTED.
FM B2 SENDS.

AND ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A NEW -ETOPS OK- SINCE YOU WERE REROUTED. OR IS THIS A CONTINUATION OF THE BRIEFING WE DID SHORTLY AFTER YOUR TAKEOFF.

122K. ORIGINAL FUEL HAD US LNDING OVRWGT DUE TO CARGO CHGS YES LOOKING FOR NEW ETOP OK BECAUSE ROUTE CHG./FB866/VR32

K. FRANKLY MAFPS ABILITY TO DO A RETASK IS... SUBPAR. BEEN TRYING FOR 30 MINUTES TO GET A SOLUTION. ISSUE AT HAND IS
THE ICING FACTOR WHICH I UNDERSTAND AMC-A3V IS REVIEWING. YOUR FLIGHT PLAN WAS RUN FOR A 1K PYLD. WHAT IS UR ACTUAL PAYLOAD THEN.
FM B2

OK. WHELP. THAT IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING YOU SHOULD HAVE COORDINATED ON THE GROUND ABOUT. LET ME SEE IF I CAN GET A FLIGHT PLAN TO RUN WITH THAT AMOUNT OF WEIGHT.
FM B2 SENDS.

GOT A FLIGHT PLAN TO RUN AT 40K PAYLOAD. IN DISCUSSION WITH MY SHIFT SUPERVISOR I USED 33 PERCENT ICING COVERAGE. WITH NEW ROUTE AND HITTING 030W WITH 85K OF FUEL - YOU LAND KBGR WITH 48K. YOU SHOULD BE ETOPS OK TO PROCEED.
FM B2 SENDS.

I SEE THAT YOU ARE HEADED TO 47N050W NOW -- GANDER MUST HAVE FIXED THAT. 46N DID NOT QUITE MAKE SENSE WITH PORTI.
FM B2 SENDS.

Sounds like Guard sponsored road trip Ron.. Will have to see where these C-17's go.
Maybe Alpena or Alaska or some place like that? Expect a large SPORT type departure Saturday?

A lot of shuttle aircraft from the Carolinas to Dover today. Nascar race there Sunday.
Haven't heard any guest fighters for possible flyover but shall see.For quite a few years pre pandemic
the Texas ANG in San Antonio would send 3-4 F-16's to Dover.

1140- Another WVA C-17 (Decoy 11 # 00-0181) looks to be on way to Martin State as well. Nope. Decoy 11 just called Andrews on 378.1 which appears to be working again.
