For a Saturday, amazing amount of training going on this morning. Between the DC ANG and AC ANG and the Barns boys, the radio is non stop. Pretty odd as I said for a Sat.
Usually the Milair bank is pretty quiet on the weekends.

First weekend of the month is usually drill weekend for a lot of units. I think with new years they did it the second weekend.

Blue Angels

This footage is of the "slot man" in the Diamond formation
which is the toughest flying job due to wingtip vortices etc. When he appears to smile he is pulling some very serious positive / negative "g" forces...
WOW! What a ride! Notice the rest of the formation
in the pilot's reflective goggles!

Here's a first for me.....An A-10 (RAVEN) showing up on ADS-B working at the Warren Grove Range
AE18C8, call sign A10CFLT
266.6 A/A

RAVEN said "departing to the west" at about 1830 local, then disappeared ....almost like he turned it off. Only 1 A/C was showing but it sounded like 2 or 3 were at the range.

Possible only the leader was squaking that's why only one plane showed up. When they check in with a center the lead will say how many in flight.

It is typical in formation flight that only one aircraft squawks a code. There are algorithms in FAA radar that would alert of a possible collision if both/all aircraft had their transponders in mode 3/c.

That.

CA alarms start going off all sorts at the TRACON/Center console if you have two Mode C aircraft inside your airspace within lateral/vertical minimums (or on closing vectors that will soon violate minimums).

In most formations (if I remember right, typically all of <1NM lateral separation), flight lead emits Mode C on assigned beacon code, and members maintain Mode S on subset ("strangling parrot" on joining the formation). So, if flight is assigned code 4722, lead emits 4722 Mode C and members squawk 4700 Mode S. For breakaway, ATC assigns the breakaway a unique Mode C once notified by flight, and goes through radar contact procedure with that breakaway before vectoring.

There are other ways of doing it with nonstandard formations.. but my memory is a little foggy since the last time I learned that stuff.

Just had a KC-135 go right over my house at about 8k ft. It was flanked on each side by a fighter jet. Took off from ADW a few minutes before going over. Maybe a refuel mission but looked like they were escorting the KC-135.

adsbexchange website shows 2 KC-135's flying with each other. AE041E & AE049A (Deecee 92 & 93).

I normally don't see many fighter's on the site unless they are training in the Chesapeake or Atlantic.

I heard DeeCee 93 flt leave Andrews around 1135 EST. At same time I also heard 2 DC ANG F-16s on 143,15 but they didn't use any callsigns nor did they say they were with anyone else. Might have been them is the time slot is correct.
