Jared,

I would've thought something like a poisned beef paprikash would be classier :)

Ed---all in good fun-- I too have been petioning CINC House for an outside antenna for years---with no success.

Jared and Ron,

Yes, in good fun indeed. I liked your comments, they made me laugh! I really can't complain too much
about my wife, she really does let me get these deals after I tell her I will sell a couple scanners to
make up for the loss of funds. Now, let me see....what non-milair scanners do I have left???

If you can hear activity on 128.750, then also plug in 132.900, the Cape sector spare ..... it's been pretty active, to the point of surplanting 128.750 for a week or more.
127.825/370.9 BOS 46
Change 127.825 to 126.225 ..... that's the new BOSTON46 victor freq, although apparently there's been no official announcement.

In both sectors, the uniform is as listed.

Thanks John. I knew I remembered reading one of your posts somewhere about that new BOS freq. I just couldn't remember the specifics.

Saw it climbing westbound just south of the Mall while I was outside on my lunch break. It turned NW after crossing the DCA departure path. The President is headed to Warren, MI (using Selfridge), and then to St. Louis tonight.

I, for one, like the SBS logs, and have to use the ones here now that the live-military-etc site has gone behind a password wall (which doesn't work for me).

I can add the hex code column with no trouble at all. I erase it with a single click. I was figuring the guys that didn't have a Mode-S receiver don't need them and the ones that do have Mode-S have the codes anyway. I wasn't thinking of the rare/new types. I'll add that column in the future. Good suggestion.

So, here's the latest chunk from SBS (with hex codes)...

That reminds me...I usually delete the line without the callsign from a particular aircraft. I missed that one since you'll notice they were eight minutes apart between first hit and when it was able to decode the callsign. The Mode-S receiver will immediately identify the aircraft but it takes a stronger signal to decode the callsign they have programmed. The downside to the way I do it, is that you're not really seeing the time of the first hit but the one that includes the callsign which, to me, is more important. Of course, I could leave both lines in the record but the list would be almost twice as long. And that's a definite downside.

In one of the above messages today, I deliberately left both lines for AF1 and you'll notice it was only a few seconds between identifying the aircraft and the line decoding the callsign - like seven seconds. That's an example of a nearby aircraft. Quick.

ABSOLUTELY. I use them quite a bit to confirm tails and times...and it's interesting to see what else is airborne as well.

Not much for Patterson today (unless you count GA, which has been busy all day):

NASA 806 (ER-2, N806NA) went on a mission 1328Z-1726Z, track is on FlightAware
VENUS 42 (C-37A, 99-0402) did approaches before landing, departed sometime arond 1800Z, I think - did it return to Andrews?
RHINO 12 (C-5A, unid) is training - should be an ERCC later this evening

For this little chunk of the log, I'll print it showing both hits I get on aircraft - the first identity hit and then the one with the callsign. The logging program produces two lines for each of those aircraft if they have a callsign programmed. In the seldom seen instances where the aircraft changes callsigns while in the air, it will produce yet another line showing the new call. I won't do this in the future but it gives an idea of the time involved between the two hits - some almost immediate and others like the earlier example with GHOST 51 that was eight minutes apart or REACH 7035 below that was 14 minutes. That one must have been picked up way out at the edge of possible coverage. Note REACH 4134 only took two seconds. I guess the question remains whether the time the aircraft is first detected is important to anyone considering there is often so much time between first hit and the hit with the callsign which is the one I normally print and erase the first hit. Here it is - picking up where the last post left off:
