There was no 'Academy show'; TinEar over on the Blue Angels thread wrote earlier that they went up for practice very briefly this afternoon, but left quickly.

The 'show' won't happen until Friday, when the new weather report says it will be sunny and warm. Yay!!

I would bet on them flying at least 1 practice run tomorrow, though I don't have a clue as to exactly when that will be. I'd also bet DC ANG will be up tomorrow; typically I start hearing them in the early afternoons.

Mike, regarding the list of freqs you posted above in relation to the DC-ANG:
What we've got to consider when looking at a list like that is what use was made of those freqs. Frequencies that are incidental to just flying really can't be tied to a particular organization. Some of those freqs I recognize such as the following to show what I mean:

351.8 is Washington Center
338.2 is Potomac Approach at Reagan National
305.2/139.50/138.975 are associated with Patuxent River NAS and BayWatch
292.3 is Giant Killer, the Virginia Capes FACSFAC
260.9 is HUNTRESS the NORAD controller

All I'm saying is that it's necessary to differentiate the freqs assigned as presets within a unit's radios as organizational frequencies and the many freqs they may use during the course of their flight. The ones I mentioned here have been associated with the DC-ANG but also with just about anybody that has ever flown through this general area on a military flight.

But I'm glad you posted them to lead to a discussion which might help in understanding military air for those that are brand new to it and those of us that have a tad of experience listening to it.

They must have stayed out over the river and east of annapolis. They only came over the Maritime Republic of Eastport a couple of times.

Hmmm

Flight of four F-16s just took off from Andrews. Callsign ANGRY. Using the V freqs...127.275/139.90

[Edit] They all returned to Andrews and landed by a couple of minutes after 10. ANGRY flight leader mentioned parking behind the Blue Angels C-130 aircraft. Landing took place on 349.00 (tower freq).

Also brief hits on 269.0 and 349.15; most of the action seems to be on 127 mhz right now.

Hmmm

We got whiffed a couple of times at AACC around 1400... they had to have been at no more than about 500ft AGL to keep under the cloud cover we had yesterday. I'm sure it'll be fun on Friday when they actually do the real thing... might actually get to see one instead of just hear it.

More F-16s training off the Virginia Capes. Callsign SPIDER working with GiantKiller. Also THOR is there - a T-38 - on freq 238.1.

Sounds like another flight of F-16s from Andrews is getting ready for takeoff.

10:51-Also have FUZZY41 (KC-135 tanker) from the 136th Air Refueling Squadron in Niagara Falls NY working with GiantKiller off the VA Capes. (238.1)

Hey Guy and Gals.
Don't forget to monitor VHF 138 to 144 am. I fing the military does more talking on these freq. than anyother, and they don't switch channels as often as on UHF.

VA-ANG F-16s up on 139.625 (11:49)

[Edit] Been a very busy day for MilAir. Lots of stuff coming and going from Andrews...had VA-ANG flying...had test flight on the Northrup Gruman freq 123.225. Currently (15:05) have a flight of F-15s from Langley, callsign JEDI with intercept training off VA Capes w/GiantKiller on 292.3. Also activity at Weide and Phillips AAF.

If you want to monitor the VIP flights in and out of Andrews, tune into the SAM (Special Air Mission) Command Post freqs of 141.55 and 378.10 (both AM mode). This is where you'll hear Air Force One among many others.

15:45 CRAB58 (C-130J MD-ANG at Martin State) is flying into Phillips AAF...126.15 Phillips tower freq.
15:48 Raven Ops (A-10s, MD-ANG at Martin State) Ops talking to aircraft on the ground 347.2. Flight taking off at 15:49...Raven 1...mission using callsign COLT. Aircraft landing...believe one of them has a bad UHF radio. Talking on Martin State tower freq 297.2

16:30 COSMIC 45 & 46 (F-16s NJ-ANG Atlantic City) working with Huntress (NORAD) on 260.9

We've got a flight of two A-10 Thunderbolts from Martin State active on 142.3 using callsign AXEMAN. They are known as the 104th Fighter Squadron of the MD Air National Guard.

They are working in the Patuxent River BayWatch area and are clearing on frequency 354.80 to do that.

[Edit] At 21:27 they've finished shooting up the countryside and are coming in to land at Martin State. They cleared into the area with BWI 290.475 and switched to Raven Ops on 347.2 to land. At this point they dropped the AXEMAN call and used RAVEN. One aircraft landing Code 1 and the other Code 2.

There's also a C-130J coming into Martin State on Crab Ops 385.90
In fact, two of them are operating - CRAB 57 & 58.

Thanks for the infor Tin...I didn't have the 123.445 freq loaded....

But I did hear just a few minutes ago, from AAFB, the ops were completed on 124.3000 and that normal traffic could contiue...I didn't have that freq either, but I heard a woman taking 1L so I am assuming it was the f-16's.

I don't have 124.3 either...wonder what it's used for.

I think you meant 123.225 rather than 123.445, didn't you? They also have 123.200 as another test freq (Northrup Gruman)

yes...123.225....fat fingers here....the Northrup Gruman freq.

They have been very active at night this week....I heard a variety of comms till 3am this morning....but it was mostly air to air...sounded like a CAP operation.

And someone named "romeo" is taking "marker" readings (the lasers perhaps?) on 272.4000

Yeah...I was copying that aircraft checking the markers too and have that freq in the scanner as Andrews but I don't know the organization...and actually don't know if Andrews is correct. The aircraft is WATERBUG 008 talking with ROMEO.

Callsign WATERBUG belongs to the Force Aircraft Test Squadron at Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

This is a cross post from the Presidential visit at the Academy.

Update:

WUSA just reported that the President will be attending the graduation cermemony at Annapolis to see the Navy Blue Angels, arriving by helicopter.

So perhaps there will be a show today, instead of just a fly-by.

After the ceremony, the President will be flying by helicopter to Camp David for the weekend.

I don't know the (or if one exists) freq for the helipad at the Academy, but I do have 375.0000 listed for Camp David. I have had the Camp David freq's listed in the RR database loaded in my scanner for two months now, but have never heard a peep on any of them.

They are working the skies over Camp D right now...Chasing planes away from the "temporary" extended no-fly zone.

Huntress is working with someone that sounds like "Harrier" and "Brass"

260.9000

Guard, of course, is on 121.5000

[edit} refueling is on 320.6000

{edit] not " Brass" make that "Harass" (37), but will be using call sign Alert 1 (currently using Huntress on 260.9000 and talking to DCA on 288.3500 (this is a new Freq for me).

Ohama is up and tracking a small plane (165.240) somewhere south east of DC...Alert 1 is already with the aircraft and is to escort the plane heading 090 away from the restricted airspace.

Omaha is trying to catch up, sounds like they might try and put him down someplace in PG Co perhaps. The craft in "unauthorized."

{edit} 1519hrs Too cool! Ohama was just instructed to "BUGOUT" cause the fighters are taking control of the situation.

{edit} 1525: Alert 1 back to call signs Harass 37 & 38...plane escorted safely away.

One online site lists Harass as F-15's out of Langley AFB.
