Jack, I first noticed the traffic over the weekend but wasn't paying real close attention to the radios so I just blew it off. Then, yesterday, the traffic seemed to start building on that freq and today it has been constant.

Travis, the atmospheric conditions are producing a very high noise level across the band today and the weaker signals, like from ground stations, are very hard to hear - at least from my location.

These NJ-ANG F-16s have sure been getting a workout the past couple of weeks. DEVIL 11/12 on tac 138.425 and BICEP 21/22 on 138.875. They have contact with WARHAWK on 141.725. Just had DEVIL contacting CHARIOT on 138.425 and I still don't know who CHARIOT is.

(Ref below) Travis, I've also been following that CAPS 91 flight heading out. That callsign should make him an F-16 from the DC-ANG. It's their travelling callsign. I thought I heard CAPS also but there's always room for doubt.
I've got him now on ZDC-Moorefield 371.9 where he says he's going direct Whiteman AFB MO (Home of the B-2)

Isn't that 257.875 a Dover AFB freq? Yes, it is...Dover Approach.

1544-I have CAP-91 on 257.2 calling direct to Linden. A minute later he confirms 257.87 Then he switched over to 257.87 (?) and then says "Good day" like he's leaving. .
1548- Now on 319.1 (Linden) 17k for 23k

It sounds like a fighter. Now as he check in with Moorefield on 371.9 it sounds like the callsign is CAPS which is the 113th FW. I hear ya TinEar.

So what's this 257.87 freq? I don't have that in my spreadsheet.

I've noticed a lot of traffic the past few days on a New York Center freq I just added to my scan rotation. It's ZNY-Atlantic Oceanic (Sector 86) on 354.0. I don't know why I didn't have that programmed previously but just noticed it recently when I was checking the list of freqs for ZNY and added it.

There is also a BANGER 21 in the NJ mix. Not sure if he's supposed to be BICEP 21 and just made a mistake. There shouldn't be two callsigns with the same suffix.

The NJ guys are checking with BayWatch on 264.55 to see if a tanker is coming into the area. Apparently, it's due in 30 minutes (as of 1814) so they are deciding whether to wait for it or not. Sounds like they are just going to skip it.
The NJ fighters are also getting tasking via text messaging which they refer to as "candygrams."

Yeah I started hearing commercial tfc on 127.275 last nite, and also hrd some ANG tfc as well; it's possible they haven't decided on a new freq yet.

Sounds like a CAP is up. Tanker-01 on 260.9 and some other chat on 288.35. I heard a BULLY flight early looking for a block of 2k.

Also have MUSSELL-11 and -12 on 292.2. Mentioned Dulls, probably heading to Mt. Weather.

1854- MUSSELL-11 (female pilot) reporting 10 minutes out from Mt. Weather.

Propagation is definitely crap tonight. I can't even hear the DC PD TRS. I was hoping to hear something about a suspicious package on Capitol Hill that was just reported on the news. No HUNTRESS controller for me either.

I heard that DEVIL flight (unknown to me at the time which flight) say to switch to 354.15. I don't have it listed either and I got distracted by everything else so I didn't listen.

CAP is with ARROW 21 (F-15 Eglin AFB FL). I imagine 22 is with him also. Hearing them on primary 260.9. TANKER 01 is the refueler. They are going to use primary 260.9 as the boom freq too. Setting up the CAP about 1850.

1859: ARROW 21 cleared onto the boom of TANKER 01. ARROW 22 is on the wing awaiting his turn.
1859: OMAHA 3 (Customs helo) with Andrews Tower on 118.4 to fly throught the area and says he's heading for the area around the Wilson Bridge.
1901: ARROW 21/22 give tail numbers and confirm they are from Eglin AFB.
1902: OMAHA 3 is now going to land at Andrews «118.4» Currently about 10 miles north of Andrews at this time.
1905: ARROW 22 cleared onto the boom. 21 reports off tanker and on station. «260.9» 21 reports it's clear above 7 or 8,000 feet and that both pilots are NVG capable. With the high noise level tonight, I can't hear the HUNTRESS ground station.
NOTE: I haven't heard them use an air-to-air chat freq yet but I'm set up on 369.15 which is what they used the last two times they came in for the CAP.

1910: The DEVIL and BICEP flights are headed back to Atlantic City using all the normal freqs to clear out of Pax and make the trip.
1914: A flight of F-16s, callsign BULLY flight of three, from the DC-ANG is airborne and using tac «139.15» Sounds like they are just coming home from a mission somewhere. They just mentioned freq 269.4 which is for ZDC-Franklin down in VA so they might have been down at the Dare County Range in NC.
1918: BULLY flight to WATERGATE on «139.9» with mission results and then right back to V-6 for tac chat.

I notice the two F-15s in the CAP are splitting the area into east and west to fly the D.C. area rather than the north and south split they use when it's over Thurmont.

2017: OMAHA 1 (Customs aircraft) checks in with HUNTRESS on primary CAP freq «260.9» to say he's 10-8. Meanwhile, ARROW 21 & 22 have been very quiet.
2027: ARROW 21/22 heading for TANKER 01 to refuel. «260.9» 22 will go first. He reports weapons are safe and nose is cold so is cleared in to the boom at 2031.

There's a page wrap for me so will continue below if necessary.....

Just heard DEVIL say push this freq...heard both come up on it then after a minute they said Push 6 and that was it.
I assumed some type of ZDC freq but surprised me also. I quickly added to rotation.
Maybe DEVIL thought it was Baywatch then realized it was not..

I found 354.15 in the database as an Atlanta ARTCC freq, Sector 42 Salem High (Tri City RCAG). So that's one possibility.

2118-ARROWs go to tac.

So I'm not the only one who thinks the boom op girl has a nice voice. :D

2115: The CAP is still in place but the same old story has developed at Eglin...bad weather. The replacement duo for ARROW 21/22 has been delayed and apparently 23 got off late but not 24. So, when 23 eventually gets here, 21 will leave and 22 will stay to wait for 24 to show up. TANKER 01 is scheduled to leave the CAP at 2150 local time. They will refuel the current pair of fighters once more before leaving and have between 20-25,000 pounds to give. The expected air-to-air freq 369.15 is in use by ARROW 21 and 22 where they griped a bit about their replacements not getting off the deck before the bad weather arrived at Eglin.

Travis: She is a sweet sounding gasser, isn't she?

2138: TANKER 02 is arriving on station about 3 minutes late «260.9» (Turns out to be about 13 minutes late.)
2141: ARROW 23 saying he's about 30 minutes out from the CAP at this time and that 24 will take off in about an hour. 22 is going to TANKER 01 to topoff. «260.9»
2156: TANKER 01 cleared out of the CAP and will RTB...direct Indian Head. «135.525» ARROW 21 will topoff with TANKER 02 as soon as he arrives and didn't need to use 01. TANKER 01, along with that great voice, signs off at 2200.
2227: So, at this point, ARROW 22 has left the CAP and headed home. ARROW 21 and 23 are currently holding the air above D.C. while awaiting 24 to arrive so 21 can head out. Sweet Voice...I mean TANKER 01 has been replaced by TANKER 02.
2230: ARROW 21 is heading for TANKER 02 to top off his tanks before heading down the road, hopefully soon. «260.9»

2135- MUSSELL-11 and -12 returning to Mt. Weather. 10 minutes out.

2204- MUSSELL was preparing to shut down but the Prez finally wrapped it up so they will keep it running.

2217- MUSSELL-11 and -12 depart.

2219- <120.1 Dulles Tower> Cleared into Class B from the west at 1600ft.

2221- MUSSELL-11 contacts MUSSELL control and report 20 minutes from drop off.
2224- I have a visual on the MUSSELL flight to the south of Leesburg.

Ref above: Come to think of it, I didn't see Ms. Rice in the audience so she might be the one flying over your head very shortly.

Dover appch is now 257.875 so probably it.
Jersey Devils when heading Northeast from Pax enroute Atlantic City sometimes
check in with Dover appch.

The designated survivor for last night's speech was Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson. In addition, post 9-11 there are two Senators and two Representatives, 1 from each political party that also do not attend the speech.

She was the first cabinet member to enter last night.
