Like some others have reported here I see strange problems with the 396xt's scanning behavior where it will loop through some search frequencies and skip others.

Easy example: I set it to search FM Broadcast with scan. Obviously there are a dozen or more FM radio stations broadcasting where I live. It scans part of the band and stops on the first it finds. I nudge the encoder to move on, but it immediately skips to the next system rather than scanning the rest of the FM Broadcast range. If I quickly set it to scan systems in the other direction it jumps back into the FM Broadcast range and locks onto the same station as before (even if that's at the bottom of the range and there are many stations towards the top of the range, the direction it should be scanning from in theory). If I quickly scan up to the next system, scan back into the FM broadcast range, and very quickly before it makes a lock on the same station again nudge the encoder to scan upwards I can get it to find the next FM Broadcast station up (clearly showing it missed it the first time), then I have the same issue: Turn the rotary encoder and it just jumps to the next system. It also seems that when it does jump systems it doesn't always enter them at the start of their range, sometimes sweeping up and down causes it to lock onto frequencies it jumped over the first time.

I also have another gripe that's been annoying me, and that is the beep when you press buttons. I set it to silent so that when I press hold I don't loose the ability to hear what's being said while the scanner beeps. I expected it would not beep at all, instead what it seems to do is still render the beep, just silently. Argh!

Finally I wish there was a simple way to tell the scanner just to cycle repeatedly through one system without changing setting, e.g. when you use FN and the rotary encoder for system selection it would be nice to hit a button and have the scanner repeatedly scan just that system. Maybe there is and I'm missing it.

I'm hoping for a firmware update to fix some of these issues though, so far there is none..

Press and hold HOLD while on a system to scan it exclusively. Repeat to return to normal scanning.

For the service search issue, what hold time do you have set for the search?
