For the past hour and a half or so, I have been monitoring a SWAT standoff on VECC Ops 1 (TG 20800) on SL Site 3 (CC 868.1125). I do not know what precipitated the standoff or where it occurred, but in accordance with the rules of this forum I did not post it until it was over. They are clearing the suspect's house as I type this.

The suspect finally complied with demands that he walk out the front door with his hands raised where he was immediately taken into custody. It is well that he did that because the SWAT team had a sniper in place with "eyes on" and all he needed was authorization.

The incident commander has been notified that KSL is waiting to talk to someone so I expect that we will all find out what this was about very soon. For them to have a sniper in place BEFORE making contact with the suspect makes me believe that his was a serious offense.

Do you know where? or what agency was involved? Just curious as OPS 1 is something I had not heard SWAT on before.
Yeah, I was a little surprised, too. No, I'm not sure of where, the reason, or the agency, but I kinda had the feeling that it was the SLSO. All of their teams operated under code names and any reference to addresses was done with the last two digits only. One of the guys heading to the incident wanted to know if 35th or 31st was the best access so that is what gave me the feeling of county.

I have looked at the TV Web sites and so far there is nothing posted on them. All the comms I monitored up until the suspect came out had to do with teams getting into position, taking tactical control of the surrounding residences, and gathering what intelligence they could.

In the end, it was relatives that actually made contact with the suspect and the situation was resolved shortly after. Up to that time, the suspect wouldn't even answer the phone.

Thanks, Viper.

KSL Story

(KSL News) A SWAT standoff in Midvale ended peacefully this afternoon.

Police received a call from concerned family members just before noon today. When they arrived, they found 30-year-old Jeremiah Elder barricaded inside a home.

They attempted to make contact with Elder but were unsuccessful. Officials also evacuated nearby homes as a precaution.

After hours of negotiating and waiting, Elder surrendered. Police say he has been depressed and recently got into some kind of altercation in Wendover. He also has a criminal history and a drug problem.

No word yet if Elder will face charges.
