That is awesome, I really enjoy fighter jets (then again, who doesn't?). I wish they had more military comms here in the Dallas area.

What is the website where you can search tail numbers and get the owner info./aircraft info.?

A lot of USN aircraft in and out of SAT today. Mostly T-44s and T-34. All of them are out of NAS Kingsville and Nas Corpus Christi. All are using "Navy" as callsign with the 3-digit identifier from their tail, tail codes are mostly "G."

I hate to state the obvious but "G" generally signifies "Training" - of course the white with orange paint scheme is a dead give away. We get the new T-45s in here (ELP) pretty much weekly. Must be doing their cross country work. There is often a flight of 2 and they usually start their break into the overhead approach to landing near my house - I sometimes think I ought to open the patio door for them.

Bill,

Yes, they're all training aircraft, and that's what the "T" in T-34 & T-44 is as well. If I recall correctly, they're from VT-31, a training squadron, again the "T" for "training" out of NASCC. The tail codes "F" and "G" are both out of NAS Kingsville and NAS Corpus, aviator training bases.

For Navy Training Aircraft:

Tail Code F is from NAS Pensacola, FL - They have T-6A's and T-45s (they train NFO's here not pilots)
Tail Code G is from NAS Corpus Christi, TX - They have T-34s, TC-12s, and T-44s based there
Tail Code B is from NAS Kingsville, TX - T-45s
Tail Code A is from NAS Meridian, MS - Also T-45s
Tail Code E is from NAS Whiting, FL - T-34s and a few new T-6Bs which are replacing the T-34s

If anyone ever wants to find out freqs for any airport or military base, go to airnav.com and look them up.

136.375 and 252.175

I heard a couple of aircraft on 136.375.

They were trying to get the radios to work so the "back seaters" could talk to eachother on UHF.
The strange thing was at one point they switched to SINCGARS type FM with 150 Hz tone on both 136.375 and 252.175 but ended up back on AM on VHF because one radio didn't have audio on UHF.

They were also coordinating with Fort Worth Center on the 127.0 using Army tail numbers.

I got it from a reliable source that Laughlin AFB in Del Rio is also linked to the "San Antonio Military Smartzone" TRS, similar to Sheppard AFB. Can anyone in the area of Del Rio or Val Verde County confirm this for us?

Re-Visiting the San Antonio Military Smartzone TRS

I got it from a reliable source that Laughlin AFB in Del Rio is also linked to the "San Antonio Military Smartzone" TRS, similar to Sheppard AFB. Can anyone in the area of Del Rio or Val Verde County confirm this for us?

Hmm, perhaps Laughlin is the missing Site # 8 on the San Antonio Military Smartzone TRS ?
Heck, Sheppard AFB is Site # 9 . So maybe someone is Del Rio can confirm this possibility.
I looked in Val Verde Co and found that Laughlin AFB was only barely documented as below.
120.50000 Laughlin Air Force Base AM Military
275.80000 Laughlin Air Force Base AM Military
335.80000 Laughlin Air Force Base AM Military
392.00000 Laughlin Air Force Base AM Military
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Analyzing over several days and even during peak traffic periods I have re-analyzed our SAT Military TRS.
These are the way the sites are mapping out. Lackland (S#1) has the most changes and less LCN's.

1)Lackland AFB 406.3625c 407.3625 407.7625 407.9625 408.1500 408.5625 408.7625 408.9625 410.3625

2)Medina Annex = ? I have no reception at home so just leave this site as it's listed for now.

3)Randolph AFB 407.4750 407.8125c 409.0250 409.3125 410.1500 410.5625 410.7625

4)Fort Sam Houston 406.5625c 406.9625 407.2500 407.8625 408.1000

5)Camp Bullis 408.0375c 408.3625 409.5625 410.1625 410.5500 410.7000

6)Central 406.1625c 406.9875 408.2375 410.6500

7)VA Hospital = ? Leave it as is for now. I need to get out there and map it with better signal.

8)Laughlin AFB - in Del Rio in Val Verde County, TX) maybe or nothing ?

9)Sheppard AFB (Wichita County,TX) I don't live there, thus no reception, so leave it as listed.

Thanks,
Michael-SATX

ps~Lindsay, if you happen to see this post , check out Camp Bullis since you live right next to them.
See what you think about 408.3625 belonging to the site 5? It does have a pulse every 30 seconds.
Several times this system was slammed at 100% capacity and this LCN was not active with mapping.

Site 9 Sheppard AFB is correct as listed in the DB and uses only the first custom table (406.15 12.5 380).
In case people don't know about it, there is a wiki article San Antonio Military SmartZone - The RadioReference Wiki that has all the talkgroups logged on site 9 that have not been identified. I bet there are a lot more talkgroups on the other sites that are not in the database.

Re-Visiting the San Antonio Military TRS - Part # 2

9)Sheppard AFB Wichita 406.3625c 407.7625 408.1625 408.9625 409.5625 410.2375 410.3625 410.6275 410.7625

ps~Lindsay, when I returned home sure enough I saw that yes indeed 408.3625 does belong to site 5
So the Camp Bullis Site #5 is correct as listed. However, 408.1000 only belongs to FSH and not Lackland AFB.

Thanks,
Michael-SATX

ps~ Thanks to nd5y for chiming in about Site # 9 being accurate as currently listed in the RR DB.
btw~Does anyone live near or travel by Laughlin AFB to see if perhaps they are using a Site # 8 ?

Re-Visiting the San Antonio Military TRS - Part # 3

I made the time to go onsite and map out our areas 2 low power sites Medina Annex #2 & VA Hospital #7

2) Medina Annex Bexar 406.1500c 407.8875a 409.1625 409.3625 409.9625

7) VA Hospital Bexar 406.5500c 406.7625a 407.1750 407.8375 409.3000 409.3125

Thanks again to nd5y for chiming in about Site # 9 being accurate as currently listed in the RR DB.
We still need a scout that lives near or travels by Laughlin AFB to see if perhaps they are Site # 8 ?

9)Sheppard AFB Wichita 406.3625c 407.7625a 408.1625 408.9625 409.5625 410.2375 410.3625
410.6275 410.7625

I allready submitted this info for sites # 2,7 and 9. The other sites are allready submitted and updated.
OK, now for some database accuracy and not 4 outdated active (red) control channels glaring at us per site !
After my submission is worked we will have all the control channels in Red(c) and alternate cc's in Blue(a).

Callsign Question

Yesterday, I heard an aircraft calling Houston Center on 360.850 going by the callsign "Hawk 2-3". Just now, I am hearing another possible military aircraft going by the callsign "Rogue 4-4" (on VHF this time). Anyone know what/who uses these callsigns?

Thanks,

Yes.
371.900
351.950
316.150
269.600
257.950

371.900 and 351.950 are mainly heard around here in Bryan.

kkn50, NASA 923 is a callsign for a NASA trainer jet (T-35?). The 9xx refers (I think) to the tail number of the aircraft. They pass through College Station all the time, but usually operate on VHF (128.075/Houston Center).

Are these FM or AM? Also are they ATC frequencies or air-to-air?

All of these are ATC frequencies for Houston ARTCC, and are in the AM mode.

371.900 has been replaced with 360.950, and the controller end is simulcasted from 134.300, which replaced 120.400.
